Abstract

This research was aimed for obtaining high level of yield in ethanol production from sorghum grain (Sorghum bicolor L.). Response surface methodology (RSM) is selected to optimize the process variables in ethanol production by employing Box Behnken design. The factors consist of Ammonium sulfate concentrations, shaking rates, and fermentation times, which are designed at 0%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0 rpm, 50 rpm 100 rpm, 56 hours, 64 hours, 72 hours respectively. Second order polynomial model was developed by Design expert 07 to estimate the ethanol yield by different level for each factor and the regression square was 90.09%. Optimal solution in this work was determined by contour plot, with the highest yield was 39.55%(v/w) by combination of ammonium sulfate concentration, shaking rate, fermentation time are 0%, 31.69 rpm, 72 hours respectively. Keywords: box behnken, Fermentation, yield

Abstract

Harvesting microalgae is an important part in the culture system to produce higher crop biomass. Microalga Harvesting can be done by several techniques such as centrifugation, filtration, sedimentation, flocculation, ultrasonic vibration, and using filter. The technique currently used on an industrial scale is flocculation. This technique is used because it is more quickly and efficiently. Flocculants safe materials are polymers of polysaccharide seaweed. The study was conducted to determine the efficiency of the use of flocculants from alginate, carrageenan, so that the flocculation process microalgae Dunaliella salina. Flocculation process at the 50-minute show flocculation by material alginate by 30.52%, 22.85% by carrageenan, 11 % by Agar, plankton without flocculation make flocculates only amounted to 3.96%. Flocculation process at 240-minutes unchanged where carrageenan increased flocculation becomes 39.84%. Agar increased to 31, 48%. Plankton added flocculant alginate did not experience significant changes that just turned into 30.89%. The research results Show best flocculation activity is carrageenan where flocculation speed equal to alginate that has been frequently used as flocculants.Keyword : Dunaliella salina, flocculants, Carrageenan, Alginate, Agar

Abstract

Red snappers are fishery commodities which have high market values. Raw materials of red snappers are important elements which determine the quality of the final products. Therefore, an enhancement of raw materials quality should be conducted through quality supervision and examination when the raw materials are retrieved, stored, and about to enter production process. The aim of this fieldwork practice is to find out the raw materials quality control on red snapper freezing process in PT. Tridaya Jaya Manunggal Pasuruan, East Java. The data taken consists of primary and secondary data which are processed descriptively. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, active participation and literature review. PT. Tridaya Jaya Manunggal has implemented quality control on production process, starting from raw materials retrieval until these raw materials become final products. The quality control of raw red snappers were done in accordance with the quality control procedures which are plan, do, check, and action. The results of implementing quality control which were executed with organoleptic examination, temperature, Total Volatile Base (TVB), microbiology, and heavy metals on raw red snappers. Raw materials which didn’t meet the required standard were rejected, and then they were processed to be second grade products.
