Abstract

Banana peel is one of the wastes that can pollute the environment so it needs to be utilized. One of the ingredients in kepok banana peels is starch (carbohydrates). Banana peel starch can be converted into glucose by hydrolysis method. This study aimed to find out the effect of banana peel starch suspension levels on the reaction kinetics of the hydrolysis process. The hydrolysis process used 2 N oxalic acid with reaction times of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 minutes and the levels of suspension of kepok banana peel starch (gr/mlcamp) were 10/250, 20/250 and 30/250. The results showed that the optimum results were obtained at a suspension content of 10/250 gr/ml with a reaction conversion reaching 35% at a time of 50 minutes at a constant temperature of 100°C. Abstract

Ground water pollution can be caused by various kinds of wastes and the results of human activities. Ground water containing COD, BOD and other harmful substances in high concentrations must pass through a treatment before use. Activated carbon is free carbon with an internal surface that has good absorption. One alternative to wastewater and groundwater treatment systems that is economical, does not require a large area and is easy to operate is the Multi Soil Layering (MSL) system. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of activated charcoal sources in reducing COD, BOD, heavy metal content and increasing groundwater pH. Sampling using random sampling technique. The MSL system uses a variety of activated charcoal sources, namely coconut shells, rice husks and sawdust. The results showed that the source of activated charcoal which gave the most effective increase in pH was rice husk (53.57%). In other hand, the sources of activated charcoal that decreased COD, BOD, Hg, Pb, and Fe were sawdust (31.16%), rice husks (73.16%), coconut shells (70.75%), sawdust (26.74%), sawdust (46.94%), respectively. The best source of activated charcoal in reducing pollutant content in groundwater is sawdust.

Abstract

Air tanah merupakan bagian dari suatu komponen siklus hidrologi. Kualitas air mencakup keadaan fisika, kimia dan biologi yang dapat mempengaruhi ketersediaan air untuk kebutuhan. Salah satu metode alternatif yang digunakan dalam mengolah air tercemar yaitu elektrokoagulasi. Proses elektrokoagulasi pada prinsipnya didasarkan pada proses sel elektrolisis.Berdasarkan studi pendahuluan dan penelitian yang telah peneliti lakukan sebelumnya bahwa masyarakat menggunakan airnya untuk kebutuhan sehari-hari seperti mandi, nyuci baju dan alat dapur tanpa dilakukan pengolahan terhadap air tersebut. Berdasarkan struktur geologi tanahnya merupakan jenis tanah gambut. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah air tanah digunakan masyarakat Desa Teluk Nilap Kecamatan Kubu Babussalam di daerah Rokan Hilir. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan 10 kombinasi elektroda Al, Fe, Cu dan Graphitemenggunakan metode elektrokoagulasi dengan voltase 12 volt, dan ketebalan plat 5 mm serta waktu 120 menit. Kemudian dilakukan analisis terhadap nilai pH, kandungan COD dan logam berat Pb yang dibandingkan dengan Permenkes no.32 tahun 2017 dimana pengujian dilakukan di laboratorium yang sudah tersertifikasi KAN.  Berdasarkan pengukuran yang dilakukan didapatkan hasilelektroda yang efektif dalam menaikkan nilai pH yaitu Cu-Cu dengan efektifitas 17%, Dalam mereduksi kandungan COD Cu-Graphite dengan efektifitas 47% dan untuk mereduksi logam berat Pb dengan variasi kombinasi elektroda Al-Al dengan efektifitas 52%.
