Abstract

This paper aims at describing teaching and learning activities in chemistry lesson through environmental-based (contextual-based)  experiments that are viewed from the perspective of Islam. Islam teaches its followers to study their environment in order to find solution for many problems. One of the problems posed by chemistry teachers with regards to conducting chemistry experiments is the lack of laboratory equipments. In fact, if environment has been studied well, Islam has provided anything we need including the need to conduct chemistry experiment. Verses in Quran, especially al-Baqarah: 185, an-Nisa: 28, al-Hajj: 78, and Hud: 61 implied that our environment provides more than enough for us to do experiments. The problem of not doing the experiments was that because teachers are not studying their environment well enough. This paper describes some ideas in which environment helps chemistry teachers to be able to conduct chemistry experiments without losing the chemistry concept. DOI: 10.15408/tjems.v1i2.1267

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran biologi menggunakan teknologi augmented reality versi Android, serta menguji daya gunanya pada siswa dan guru biologi. Penelitian pengembangan ini terdiri atas tiga tahapan, yakni penelitian pendahuluan, pembuatan prototipe, serta refleksi sistematik dan dokumentasi. Data didapatkan melalui wawancara siswa dan guru, kuesioner, dan tes, sedangkan analisis data dilakukan dengan teknik deskriptif kualitatif dan statistik deskriptif. Penelitian ini menghasilkan produk berupa aplikasi AR versi Android untuk sistem ekskresi manusia yang mendapatkan skor rata-rata baik dalam validasi ahli, evaluasi kelompok kecil, dan uji lapangan, serta sangat baik dalam evaluasi satu-satu. Aplikasi AR versi Android ini dinilai menarik dan dapat diterima oleh siswa dan guru sebagai alternatif media pembelajaran untuk sistem ekskresi manusia, serta efektif dalam membantu proses pembelajaran biologi di kelas. DEVELOPING ANDROID AUGMENTED REALITY AS A LEARNING MEDIA OF HUMAN EXCRETORY SYSTEM Abstract: This study aims to develop android Augmented Reality application as a learning media of human excretory system concept and to examine its practicality for biology students and teachers. This development research includes 3 stages, namely preliminary research, prototyping stage, and systematic reflection and documentation. The data were collected through interview to 100 students and 3 teachers, and questionnaires to 100 students and 3 teachers from three schools. This study has resulted in Android AR application for human excretory system concept which is rated “good” by expert review, small group evaluation and field study, and “very good” through one-to-one evaluation. This application is interesting for and is accepted by students and teachers as an alternative learning media for human excretory system concept, and is effective to help them in biology teaching-learning process. Abstract

Teacher autonomy in learning is a part of professional accountability. The autonomy includes self-direct teaching as a reflection of the teachers’ metacognition in selecting learning strategies, monitoring the accuracy of strategy implementation, as well as evaluating the process. The metacognitive attitude directs the process of constructing knowledge and managing a classroom to meet the standard of the learning process. The objective of the present study is to describe the metacognitive attitude of Biology teachers. The survey research involved 57 Biology teachers in DKI Jakarta Province, Indonesia. The research instrument is the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory Teacher (MAIT) with Cronbach Alpha values r = 0.86. The results show that (1) the teacher's metacognitive attitude is high (mean 73.49), and (2) there was no correlation between metacognitive attitude with the school category or gender. This suggests the high performance of Biology teachers in autonomy especially in managing the Kurikulum 2013. This Kurikulum 2013 emphasizes student-centered learning which allows a variety of learning strategies that can be selected by the teacher to achieve a quality result. Male and female teachers both have equal opportunities in achieving their metacognitive attitudes, as well as the school category.

Abstract

INCREASING STUDENTS LEARNING OUTCOME THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROBLEM BASED-LEARNING MODEL ASSISTED WITH VIDEO ON THE CONCEPT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES AND PRESERVATION EFFORT       Juriah1, Zulfiani21SMA Negeri 3 Tangerang Selatan, Indonesia2UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Indonesiazulfiani@uinjkt.ac.idAbstractThe research aims to determine the improvement of students’ biology learning outcomes in class X IPA 3 SMAN 3 Tangerang Selatan. It was conducted through the problem-based learning model assisted with video. The method was Classroom Action Research (CAR) held in two cycles. Using essay test and observation sheet, 29 students of class X IPA 3 were involved. The result showed that at the first cycle, students’ learning average was 85,31 with 93%learning completeness. Following the second cycle, both the learning average and completeness increased to 93,41 and 100% respectively. The results of the acquisition of communication skills and product making skills of the first cycle average 85,39 and the second cycle is 86,06. The average value of N-Gain in cycle I and II respectively is 0,67 and 0,79 (high category).  Students activities have also risen from 89% (cycle I) to 100% (cycle II). This concluded that problem based-learning model assisted with video enables students to enhance their learning outcomes especially on the concept of environmental changes and preservation effort. AbstrakPenelitian ini  bertujuan  untuk untuk mengetahui peningkatan hasil belajar biologi pada peserta didik kelas X IPA 3 SMAN 3 Kota Tangerang Selatan tahun ajaran 2016/2017 dengan menerapkan model problem based learning disertai media video.  Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus. Tiap siklus terdiri atas perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian adalah peserta didik  kelas  X IPA 3 SMAN 3 Kota Tangerang  Selatan tahun  ajaran 2016/2017 dengan jumlah peserta didik sebanyak 29 orang. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes uraian dan lembar observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pencapaian hasil belajar pengetahuan pada siklus I rerata  85,31 dengan jumlah yang mencapai Ketuntasan Belajar Minimal (KBM) 93%,  pada siklus II  rerata belajar 93.41 dengan KBM 100%. Hasil perolehan nilai keterampilan komunikasi dan keterampilan membuat produk siklus I rerata 85,39 dan siklus II  yaitu 86,06. Adapun rerata nilai N-Gain pada setiap siklusnya adalah 0,67 pada siklus I dan 0,79 pada siklus II dengan kategori pemahaman  tinggi. Aktifitas peserta didik juga meningkat dari 89% pada siklus I menjadi 100% pada siklus II. Hasil ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model problem based learning berbantu media video dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar pada konsep perubahan lingkungan.

Abstract

Students' thinking abilities can be identified through the questions they ask during the learning process. This study aims to analyze the types of students’ questions with the Problem Based Learning model integrated with ‘Questions-Students-Have’ (QSH) strategy. This study was conducted at SMAN Tangerang Year XI MIA 3. The research method used was descriptive research. Sampling was in the form of non-probability sampling with purposive sampling technique. Instruments were in the form of teacher observation sheets, student observation sheets, and student worksheets. The data analysis technique was done by quantitative descriptive. The result of this study is the Problem Based Learning model integrated with the ‘Questions-Students-Have’ strategy can stimulate students to ask questions and be able to improve students' ability to ask questions.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze students' Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) using a two-tier multiple choice (TTMC) test instrument. This study used a descriptive quantitative method with a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used are multiple-choice tests with free reasoning, the TTMC test for quantitative data, interview guides, and learning observations for qualitative data. Anderson and Krathwohl's Bloom taxonomy revision (2001) cognitive instrument used to classify HOTS. The results showed that the higher-order thinking skill profile has an average score of 63,21 and dominated good. Students' cognitive level of analyzing/C4 (74,35%) is more dominant compared to cognitive evaluating/C5 (68,90%) and creating/C6 (63,24%). The hormonal regulatory subconcept gets the highest correct answer average with a percentage of 89,74%, and the contraceptive method subconcept gets the lowest correct answer average with 35,90%. One factor that influences the high and low percentage of the correct answer for each subconcept is the level of difficulty of the question; medium (enough) in the contraceptive method and too tricky in the contraceptive method. Analysis of answer patterns based on the results of a TTMC test shows that students are better able to answer questions on the first tier than answering on the second tier.

Abstract

The effect of inquiry-based learning models on cognitive learning outcomes has been discussed for a long time. However, in local research, this effect is more focused on comparing inquiry-based learning models with traditional learning models. Given such studies' rarity, this study seeks to compare the various inquiry levels to cognitive learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the differences in students' cognitive aspects between structured inquiry and guided inquiry-based science learning models. The research method used is a causal-comparative method, with a sample search technique in the systematic review. The sample used is secondary data in the form of undergraduate theses that have passed the selection and come from the Biology Education program at least accredited B with the research theme of the effect of inquiry learning models on high school students' cognitive learning outcomes. The research findings reveal significant differences in cognitive learning outcomes between the structured inquiry (SI) and guided inquiry (GI) learning model. The processing is more complicated in the GI learning model, allows students to perform better in learning outcomes than the SI learning model. Significant differences were supported by calculating the effect size in this study. The effect size in studies that apply the SI learning model belongs to the medium category. Meanwhile, the effect size in studies using the GI learning model belongs to the large to extremely large categories

Abstract

Many students spend time with their smartphones for entertainment, one of which is playing games, and rarely use their smartphones for learning media. This study aims to develop educational game applications, and determine the feasibility and responses of teachers and students to android based educational game applications on the concept of a coordination system. This study uses a developmental research method with a 4D development model consisting of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. The sampling technique is by purposive sampling. The data collection uses a closed questionnaire. Questionnaires are used to assess the feasibility of media by media experts, material experts, teachers and students. Analysis of the data obtained is carried out by quantitative descriptive. In the define stage, the results were obtained from interviews with biology teachers and the distribution of media needs questionnaires to students. In the design stage, the results of the media design (prototype) are obtained. In the develop stage, the results of the media expert validation were 90.67% (very good), while the material expert validation results were 81.25% (very good). Furthermore, a trial was conducted on the teacher and 35 students of class XII high school. The results of the assessment for teachers are 96.88% (very good) and for students are 87.57%. In the disseminate stage, the teacher's response was 98.75% (very good) and the student's response was 83.42% (very good). It is concluded that the educational game-based android application is appropriate to be used as a media for learning biology
