Abstract

Skin diseases are one of the diseases that are common in the community, especially in informal workers such as fishermen, because have no proper attention to personal hygiene and cleanliness of the workplace environment. exposure to seawater, the level of sea water concentration could be a caused of skin diseases, also be caused by various factors, including chemical factors, physical factors and biological factors are the matters fisherman’s complaints against skin diseases. Knowing the correlationbetween the use of personal protective equipment and complaints of skin diseases in fishermen in the Lead Area of Watudambo Village of North Minahasa Regency. This research is a quantitative research using analytical survey methods. The research design used is a study of fishermen's latitude cut in the Lead Area of Watudambo Village of North Minahasa Regency in May to October 2021. The sampling technique used the method of taking samples as a whole with a sample count of 32 fishermen. Based onrespondents' perception of complaints of skin disorders obtained the result that 62% of fishermen experience complaints of skin disorders, based on the category of personal hygiene obtained results that 62.5% of fishermen have good personal hygiene Based on the use of personal protective equipment the result shows that 65.6% of fishermen do not use personal protective equipment. There is a proper correlation between the use of personal protective equipment and complaints of skin diseases, sig. (2-sided) shows 0.006 < 0.05. Based on the use of PPE 21 respondents did not use PPE and 11 respondents used PPE, while for complaints of skin disorders there were 20 respondents who experienced complaints about skin disorders. Based on this study, there was a correlation between the use of personal protective equipment (APD) and complaints of skin disorders in the Pimpin Watudambo village of North Minahasa Regency. Fishermen in the Pimpin Watudambo Village area, North Minahasa, are expected to always beable to use adequate PPE in carrying out their work so that there are no disturbances and diseases related to fishing.
