Abstract

The material as the life’s necessities of human changes into prestige of the human himself. Material is no longer interpreted as the life’s necessities but it changes into money. It becomes the symbol of success and happiness. This shift process certainly brings a lot of change to the human nature. Material which at the beginning is considered as the life necessities turns into human obsession to reach the happiness. In the literary criticism, materialism is one of approach to analyze the values in the literary works. Its used by Fitzgerald to view the complexity of the story in the ‘Great Gatsby’ Novel, but unfortunately the fact, its ironic because material satisfaction is only empty happiness as reflected in this paper.

Abstract

The Madurese people are originally indigenous to the island of Madura, located in the Java Sea just north of East Java, and Madura is part of the province of Jawa Timur (East Java) which contains four cities in it; Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan and Sumenep. Madurese language plays important roles in maintaining and developing Indonesian language. There are at least two major roles of Madurese language. The roles are; (1) the existence of Madurese language can be used as a shield of Indonesian language against the invasion of foreign languages, and (2) Madurese language can be functioned as a vocabulary donor of Indonesian language. Madurese language is interested to be analyzed because of its unique language features. Madurese has their own rules to arrange a proper conversation politely, just like Javanese and the other culture. They have their speechlevels engaged to social dialect that used in daily communication. It is because of some factors. This social dialect and its factors of Madurese language is discussed in this research.

Abstract

Writing is a skill which is consider as difficult skill in teaching learning process because it need an effort to collect ideas and words on the paper. Most of student said that writing process is very difficult and often make them lazy and bored to write and to make student motivated and enthusiastic to study the teachers probably have the strategy, method or a technique to teach their students and this research attempt to describe the Dictogloss technique that is implemented by the teacher in teaching writing of procedure text in the ninth grade of SMPI Bahrul-Huda sumber anyar. From this research, the researcher want to know the process of dictogloss technique and the advantage of that technique in writing material. In this research, the resercher use qualitative approach. Data collection procedures that used in this research are observation, interview, and documentation. The result show that implementation of Dictogloss technique that is implemented by the teacher in the class room is run well and teaching learning process is successful by using the technique. Students get progress to write than before and they get many vocabularies as guided writing, they also know how to arrange words to be sentence then write it to be one paragraph but in the other side the technique is need much time and sometimes it affect student in learning.

Abstract

Macapat is one of the ancient old culture existed in Madura especially in some villages in Pamekasan. This was became uninterested culture among society nowdays, exactly for millennial generation. In spite of this, this culture is still sustained by Madura society. Macapat has a beautiful song or tembang in every steps of meaning. The manuscript contain the legend of Prophet Muhammad and his Sohabah. The manuscript of Macapat is usually used as a forecast manner in making prediction of problem solving by Madurese people in Larangan Luar Village. This is showed ‘Oghem’ as a part of Macapat. The song of macapat generally use figurative language and symbolism to show the hidden meaning in the manuscript. Then, it is analyzed as literary analysis in socio-cultural approach. This research use qualitative method in deep observasion approach. There are two focus of research: the way of societies in doing forecast and the literary analysis of symbolism in the Song of Oghem Macapat. This research purposed to have deep understanding of Literature in Social aspect of culture. The result of the research was clearly explained and found that society belief about oghem as a way to give real contribution for their social life. While the symbolism of macapat was found as figurative symbol of situation which was implied in the song.

Abstract

Assessing listening is the process of assessing the spoken text through the auditory insight. It requires the ability to recognize the spoken input with the auditory capacity and the knowledge of spoken language. The task and the activities are served in six listening types (reactive, intensive, selective, responsive, extensive and interactive listening) and the indicative answer is encoded by particular listening type focus on. While technology as vehicle to assess the learners’ listening skill, that by using the technology much more spoken input are established by native-speaker and teachers’ own record is used any. This study uses document analysis from the available previous studies to analyzing, evaluating and answering the problem which is encountered by student’s listening and either or not technology used in assessing listening can help them to improve their listening ability. An overview of some researches provide that student get challenge to comprehend the native spoken input delivery such as, an accent, the length of speech, long spoken passage and linguistic feature. The authentic dialogue provides less density and length of the information than the dialogue created in the textbook, that the information incorporated in the machine/technology less improve the students’ listening comprehension. It lacks to assess in the selective listening type that the task focus on taking the important information from the spoken text.
