Abstract

Kinship terminology is a way of addressing someone who is bound to themselves because of blood, descent, and marriage. Kinship terminology is culturally bounded. Kinship systems are widely discussed in different areas of humanity studies, such as linguistics studies. Terminologies in the kinship system of both Cina Benteng and Khek will be used as the linguistic evidence of this research. Since it is an ethnolinguistics study, this research attempts to analyze the kinship terminology of two similar ethnic communities, Cina Benteng and Hakka (Khek) in Tangerang through the ethnolinguistic point of view. It aims to provide the kinship terminology in Cina Benteng and Khek and also to contrast the similarities and differences between the term of address and term of reference in the chosen communities. This research will utilize the kinship theory from Nanda, Burling, and Lounsbury. The data of this research are being collected by doing interviews, recording the interview, taking notes, dan observe the site. This research revealed that even though Cina Benteng and Khek communities belonged to the same root, they have some contrast in their referring and addressing system of kinship. AbstrakIstilah kekerabatan adalah kosakata yang digunakan untuk menyebut seseorang yang terikat dengan diri/penutur karena hubungan darah, keturunan, dan perkawinan. Istilah kekerabatan dalam sebuah bahasa terikat oleh budaya. Sistem kekerabatan dibahas secara luas dalam berbagai studi humaniora, termasuk linguistik. Istilah kekerabatan dalam sistem kekerabatan Cina Benteng dan Khek akan digunakan sebagai data atau bukti linguistik penelitian ini. Penelitian ini mencoba menganalisis terminologi kekerabatan dua komunitas etnis Tionghoa, yaitu Cina Benteng dan Hakka (Khek), di Tangerang dari sudut pandang etnolinguistik. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah mendeskripsikan istilah kekerabatan di Cina Benteng dan Khek serta untuk membandingkan persamaan dan perbedaan dari istilah kekerabatan dan sapaan di komunitas itu. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori kekerabatan dari Nanda, Burling, dan Lonsburry. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan melakukan wawancara, perekaman, pencatatan, dan pengamatan di lokasi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa meskipun berasal dari akar yang sama, komunitas Cina Benteng dan Khek memiliki beberapa perbedaan dalam sistem kekerabatan baik, dalam fungsi merujuk maupun memanggil.

Abstract

People socialize trough language. Language uses as media of communication and fulfils formal and informal roles in society. In communicating, people have their preference in using certain language for certain roles. Speaker preferences represent their language attitude toward those languages. Speaker attitude of language will strongly affect the preservation of language. In East Java, the regional language is Javanese language. However, people tend to use Indonesia language or Javanese language as their lingua franca in this modern era. This phenomenon encourages one language become dominant or minor. This paper focuses on the attitude of Javanese speaker among participant. The writer chooses participant from Javanese speaker in Madiun, East Java. Participants are chosen in consideration of aspects native speaker and distribution of Javanese language in Java. The domain of language usage and variety of attitudes are used to measure the attitude of language speaker. Besides investigating the language attitude of the participant, in this article, the writer also analyses the language preservation of the participant. The result shows that the participant perform positive attitude toward Javanese language. Therefore, the language preservation that has done by the participant is in the intermediate level. This article is, therefore, only a case study of language attitude, particularly to see how the attitude of native speaker of Javanese language can be problematic in the modern era

Abstract

At its daily used in adult individuals and children, language meet the communication function is to communicate ideas (thought) of an individual in others (Piaget, 2005: 1). This can be evident from the speech-speech or narrative generated in the use of everyday language which then becomes an interesting study for the main study in the use of language in children. In narrating the story, just as it had done by adult speakers, children will also make the selection and preparation of experience and other stories from the story of his life (life story). This explains the narrative as a genre that is universal because it narrated traditions can be found in every culture and speakers of different languages ​​(Hatch: 1992 in Brockmeier 1998). On the other hand, the narrative is also characterized as being bound by culture and language so that in the context of language and speakers of different backgrounds will have the tools possible narrative and discursive different linguistic (Labov & Waletsky: 1968, Ochs: 1998 in Berman 1998). The above facts indicate that the narrative structure generated by the speakers of a language and culture will be different from the speakers of the language with cultural and language backgrounds other.

Abstract

Jenis kata adalah topik penting untuk dipelajari karena ini merupakan salah satu keterampilan dasar dalam bahasa Inggris. Kemampuan memahami jenis kata bagi siswa MLC sangat penting terutama ketika mereka masih belum memiliki kesempatan untuk mengambil kursus bahasa Inggris karena mereka berasal dari keluarga yang tidak mampu dengan kata lain mereka tidak mampu membayar biaya kursus. Oleh karena itu, tim dosen FSH UBD berinisiatif untuk bekerja sama dengan MLC dalam memfasilitasi mahasiswa MLC belajar bahasa Inggris dengan tujuan khusus untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris mereka. Pelatihan dilaksanakan selama 3 jam 08 Januari 2023. Peserta yang mengikuti pelatihan ini berjumlah 10 orang. Kelas ini menyimpulkan bahwa mayoritas meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam mengidentifikasi kelas kata dalam bahasa Inggris namun sisanya tidak mampu dan ini dikarenaka tingkat level pendidikan mereka rendah. Secara keseluruhan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh tim dosen FSH berjalan lancar sesuai jadwal.

Abstract

This reserach about the semiotic analysis in the novel “Night on The Galactic Railroad” written by Miyazawa Kenji in 1927. The writer wrote this thesis in order to find the sign inside the Novel and interpret the signs using Peirce’s theory by using a Triadic Model. The author decided to further ease the process of interpreting the sign by using Peirce’s triadic model. The writer decided to use qualitative method to find the result for this research. The writer used 2 objects for this research, formal and material object. The formal object being the Charles Sanders Peirce’s theory. While the material object being the Novel Night on The Galactic Railroad by Miyazawa Kenji. The novel was written in 1927 and published by Bunpoudou in 1934. The writer used a note taking method in this research as an instrument. The writer used Peirce’s theory to analyze the data. The consideration of choosing Pierce because this theory can cover all level in semiotics process of meaning interpretation. Based on the analysis process, the writer found that there are 24 signs, which is 17 indexes, 5 symbols, and 2 icons. The writer concludes that the most frequent signs found in the novel are indexes.

Abstract

This research explores classical Javanese manuscripts in correlation with diaspora identity memories. Java, which is now part of Indonesia, during the nineteenth century was a place of meeting and hope for various ethnic groups. These events are recorded in cultural memory in classical Javanese texts and formed in Javanese cultural narratives. This research is a qualitative research approach postcolonial. The hermeneutic method analyses cultural phenomena that develop in Javanese society. Data in Javanese chronicle and piwulang manuscripts combined with Javanese cultural traditions rooted in society. Critical analysis is carried out to identify the Javanese concept in the track record of noble culture. The research results show that Javanese culture is presented in the symbols, values, and rituals contained in the chronicle and piwulang texts as markers and evidence of the existence of diaspora contact in Java, which formed a new culture. Javanese identity was formed through the patronage of the king's power. Javanese texts record events from birth, life cycle and death, becoming a container for unifying various crystallized cultural elements. Acculturation, syncretism, and maintaining the cultural identity of each ethnic diaspora in the expression of various cultural events. The cultural identity that crystallizes in the complexity of values, traditions and cultural characteristics is embedded in the hearts of the Javanese people. The pinnacle of Javanese identity is a philosophy of life that emphasizes the values ​​of politeness, balance and harmony in social relations, which are crystallized in the concept of 'rasa' or the feeling of being a shared identity between natives and the diaspora in Java.
