Abstract

Hypoxia inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) regulates gene involved inresponse to hypoxia and promotes angiogenesis. HIF-1α is atranscriptional factor to induce vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF). The objective of this study was to examine the correlation ofHIF-1α and VEGF expression with surgical outcome in epithelialovarian cancer, therefore could predict optimality of debulking inovarian cancer.Thirty patients with epithelial ovarian cancer who underwent primarysurgery were included in this study. Tumor tissues were obtainedfrom surgery and examined with q reverse transcriptase polymerasechain reaction (qRT-PCR) for HIF-1α and VEGF expression analysis.Evaluation of surgical outcome was based on volume of residualtumor. Correlation between HIF-1α and VEGF was analyzed by usingSpearman correlation test while the correlation between HIF-1α andVEGF and surgical outcome was analyzed by ANOVA.Results: The mean age of the study subjects was 47.53±10.41 years.Eleven patients (36.7%) were diagnosed with stage I ovarian cancer,9 patients (30%) with stage II, 8 patients (26.7%) stage III and 2patients (6.7%) with stage IV. Out of 30 patients, 22 patients (73.3%)successfully underwent optimal debulking and 8 patients (26.7%)with suboptimal debulking. There was a correlation between HIF-1αand VEGF expression (r=0.582) but no correlation between HIF-1αand VEGF expression with surgical outcome in patients withepithelial ovarian cancer. Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between HIF-1α andVEGF expression but no significant correlation between HIF-1α andVEGF expression with surgical outcomes.

Abstract

To investigate the association of MMP7 and VEGF expression with ovarian cancer, benign ovarian cysts, and normal ovaries. This study was analytical research with case-control design. In the study, IHC expression of MMP7 and VEGF was carried out on paraffin block of ovarian cancer tissue, benign ovarian cyst, and normal ovary. In 40 subjects with ovarian tumors, 17 patients were found with positive MMP7 expression. In the control group, no subjects were found with positive MMP7 expression. There was a significant relationship between MMP7 expression and ovarian tumor incidence. Meanwhile, in 40 subjects with ovarian tumors, 21 patients were found with positive VEGF expression. In the control group, no subjects with positive VEGF expression were found. There was a significant relationship between VEGF expression and ovarian tumor incidence. There was a significant relationship between MMP7 and VEGF expression with ovarian tumor incidence.

Abstract

The incidence of cervical cancer is still quite high. It is never separated from the risk factors that influence it. Some of them are sexually active, relatively young marital age, have high parity, use of contraception, and smoking can increase a woman's potential for cervical cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics of patients about the risk factors for cervical cancer in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan in 2016-2018. This research method uses descriptive observational design with cross sectional using medical record data. The results of this study using consecutive sampling techniques, took 100 samples and obtained several characteristics are age of patients, age of marriage, marriage history, number of parities, use of contraception, and smoking history. From this study it can be concluded that the characteristics of the incidence of cervical cancer in the General Hospital of Haji Adam Malik Medan in 2016-2018 are 50-59 years old, marital age ≤ 20 years old, married once, multigravida, uses injection type of hormonal contraception , and not smoking .

Abstract

Ovarian cancer is a disease that has a high mortality rate, it has 185 thousand deaths in 2018. In Indonesia, it is estimated that there are 100 cancer patients per 100 thousand people. Ovarian cancer is a malignancy with no specific symptoms, as a result advanced stage is commonly found at diagnosis and there is no effective screening test to date. However, genetic factors have been found to play a role in this disease. The aim of this study is to find out the characteristics of ovarian cancer patients. Methods: This research uses a review article research design, with a narrative type. Data collection was taken from a collection of journals sourced from Pubmed and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria set by the author and then summarized. Six journals that included the characteristics of ovarian cancer patients are included in this review article. According to the six journals, the mean age is 54 years old, the most stage found is stage 3, and the most epithelial histopathology found is serous. According to the six journals that were reviewed, the characteristics of ovarian cancer patients based on age, stage, and epithelial histopathology were found to be consistent with the theory that has been established.
