Abstract

This study aimed to improve the students ability in reading comprehension of grade 1 students in SMK Neg. 1 Lhokseumawe for the 2020/2021 academic year. The population and sample of this study were students of class 1 SMK Negeri 1 Lhokseumawe. There were two classes as the sample, accounting majors as the experimental group and computer network engineering majors as the control group. The data obtained is by collecting pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by calculating the t-test to find out the significant difference to the mean values of the two groups. Based on statistical analysis, it was found that the t-test for the experimental and control classes was -11.385 with a significance of 0.00. while the determined significance level is 0.005. This means that 0.00 < 0.05, this indicates that there is a significant difference for the posttest between the experimental and control classes. The difference in the posttest mean scores between the experimental and control classes was considered significant. To follow up on the results of this study, suggestions are needed to teach reading as an active and meaningful activity. Therefore, English teachers are expected to apply various strategies in the reading learning process.

Abstract

The research aims to find out whether the students reading comprehension can be improved through the use of the Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) method. In order to achieve the objectives, the researcher held action research at SMA N 5 Lhokseumawe, from 16- 19th March 2021. There were 2 cycles in which 2 meetings were held for each cycle. The subject of the study is the second year with the numbers of population 32 students. The instruments used were observation sheets, questionnaires, and tests. The result of the study is the problem of motivating students to read. This can be solved by using Communicative Language Teaching(CLT). Based on the questionnaire, all of the students said that the use of the Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) method was interesting. In line with the questionnaire result, the observation sheet also showed excellent results on students’ study habits. There was an improvement in students’ comprehension, it can be seen in cycle 1 which was 89.06 points, and cycle II which was 95.6 points. In this study, I suggest that the teachers should be able to use Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) as an alternative to motivating students learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the listening skills of class XII students at SMA Neg. 2 Lhokseumawe Academic Year 2022/2023 through the implementation of Blended Learning using the WhatsApp application as a media. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) This research consisted of one cycle that consisted of four steps, they are: planning, action, observation, and reflection. To collect data, researchers carried out three steps, namely: Pre-test, Treatment, and Post-test. To analyze the data, researchers used a quantitative research design. Quantitative data were obtained from the pre-test and post-test scores of class XII students. The results showed that there was a significant increase in students' listening skills through the application of the Blended Learning model using the WhatsApp application. The increase can be seen from the pre-test and post-test values in one cycle. In the pre-test, the main score is 60.95 and in the post-test, the main score is 90.55. The average value of the post-test is higher than the pre-test, with an increase of 48.56%. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of Blended Learning through the WhatsApp application can improve students' listening skills

Abstract

Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris mulai diperkenalkan dari sekolah dasar bahkan taman kanak-kanak, namun demikian Bahasa Inggris sangat sulit dikuasai dikarenakan penggunaan Bahasa Inggris di Indonesia bukanlah Bahasa pertama (first language) dan Bahasa kedua (second language) melainkan Bahasa asing (foreign language). Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris siswa MTs Negeri 4 Aceh Utara sebagai bahasa komunikasi global yang digunakan di seluruh dunia. Metode pelaksanaan kegiataan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode ceramah dan demonstrasi salah satu metode efektif meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara (speaking skill), yaitu metode drill untuk memudahkan mereka memahami terkait edukasi pentingnya Bahasa Inggris dalam pembelajaran di MTs Negeri 4 Aceh utara.  Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan minat siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Selain itu siswa juga sangat antusias dalam mempraktekkan salah satu metode efektif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara (speaking skill), yaitu metode drill. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini diharapkan siswa MTs Negeri 4 Aceh Utara dapat meningkatkan minatnya dalam mengembangkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris era globalisasi.
