Abstract

This paper presents the designing of portable power supply for pitchman.This equipmenthas functions as a electrical power provider, especially for pitchman as a replacement of electricalgenerator machine. This portable power supply consists of DC battery 12 volt 60 Ah, automatic batterycharger 16 volt 5 ampere, power inverter DC-AC 500 watt and relay 220 volt. When the unit connected toelectrical networks, the automatic battery charger generated 13,5 volt direct current (DC) which can becharging a 12 volt 60 Ah battery and automatically reducing the charging current to a low level wheneverthe battery is full charged. The 300 watt inverter was used to convert the direct current (DC) to alternatecurrent (AC). This electrical storages can be use to power on electric lamps for lightening to thepicthman at night. Test result showed, the automatic battery charger was able to charging the batterysuccessfully with maximum output 13,45 volt DC. The inverter was then tested with a 230 V 18 W softlight (SL) lamp and it was able to power on successfully with an output AC voltage of 236 volt for 34hours.

Abstract

The researches about design and manufacturing of portable salt iodizedapparatus using semi-automatic system have been done. The aim of this research was tostudied and to designed salt iodized apparatus which can be operation automatically tosprayer and mixing salt to be iodized. Result of mechanic and automatic system testingshowed all testing parameters working well and stable. Testing result of iodine contentbased on iodat tester colour showed the best iodine content getting from spayer times 3second with KIO3 volume achieve 27 cc and iodat testing appear old puple colour. Testingresult of iodized salt showed all parameters fulfill with SNI. No. 01-3556-200. Theadvantage of this apparatus were easily to removing, low energy consumption, workingautomatically and easy to maintenance.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang pengaruh penggunaan metanol daur ulang sebagai pelarutterhadap rendemen dan mutu produk biodiesel telah dilaksanakan. Tujuan dari penelitianini adalah untuk mempelajari proses produksi biodiesel menggunakan metanol bekas yangtelah didaur ulang, serta membandingkan kualitas dan kuantitas mutu produk biodieselyang dihasilkan antara penggunaan metanol daur ulang dan metanol baru. Rasio molarminyak terhadap metanol yang digunakan adalah 1:4, 1:6, 1:8, 1:10 dan 1:12 dengankonsentrasi katalis 1% b/b dari minyak yang digunakan, pada temperatur proses 45, 50,55, 60 dan 65 oC serta waktu proses 40, 60, 80, 100 dan 120 menit. Hasil penelitianmenunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan signifikan antara penggunaan metanol daur ulang danmetanol baru terhadap rendemen dan mutu biodiesel. Hasil identifikasi GasChromatography terhadap senyawa produk biodiesel menggunakan metanol daur ulangmenunjukkan kadar alkil ester mencapai 98,07% dan telah memenuhi persyaratan SNI 04-7182 : 2006.

Abstract

Research of energy efficiency for biodiesel production process by combining two orifices on  hydrodynamic cavitation reactor had been carried out. The aim of this reseach was to studied effect of the number of orifices toward increasing temperature without using external energy source to produce biodiesel that generated by cavitation effects on orifices. The results of preliminary research showed by combining two orifices arranged in series can produce the highest thermal energy reached 48oC. Result of biodiesel production showed that yield of the highest biodiesel was 96.34% using molar ratio a methanol:oil with comparison 6:1, KOH as catalyst (1%) for 50 minutes processing time. For biodiesel quality testing showed all selected parameter met the requirements of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 04-7182:2006. Identification of biodiesel compound using GCMS showed the biodiesel compounds consisted of methyl oleate, methyl palmitate, acid linoleid, methyl stearate, palmitic acid and oleic acid with the total contents 98.39%.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to study biodiesel production from low cost feedstock of waste cooking oil (WCO) using hydrodynamic cavitation apparatus. A two-step processes esterification process and transesterification process using hydrodynamic cavitation for the production of biodiesel from WCO is presented. The first step is acid-catalyzed esterification process for reducing free fatty acid (FFA) content of WCO and followed by base-catalyzed transesterification process for converting WCO to biodiesel as the second step. The result of esterification process with methanol to oil molar ratio of 5 and temperature of 60 oC showed that the initial acid value of WCO of 3.9 mg KOH/g can be decreased to 1.81 mg KOH/g in 120 minutes. The highest yield of biodiesel in transesterification process of 89.4% obtained at reaction time of 150 minutes with methanol to oil molar ratio of 6. The biodiesel produced in the experiment was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), which showed that it mainly contained five fatty acid methyl esters. In addition, the properties of biodiesel showed that all of the fuel properties met the Indonesian National Standard (INS) No. 04-7182-2006 for biodiesel.
