Abstract

Innovative way in teaching L2 learners can be considered as a challenging job while it can be facilitated by using "Magic Box" as a tool box consists of many stationeries, types of papers and reuse things to innovate new interactive media. The main purpose of this study was conducted to identify the role of "Magic Box" in innovating interactive media in teaching vocabulary. The samples participants of the study were 10 students of English Department of STKIP Al Hikmah Surabaya. They were chosen because of they have to practice their teaching skills start from first semester, so they should develop their vocabulary. The lecture will guide and show to the students how to innovate interactive media using “Magic Box”. This study was designed as a qualitative study with pre-test and post-test instruments allow lectures to empirically evaluate the effectiveness of "Magic Box" in innovating interactive media in learning vocabulary by the students through formative assessment. After analyzing the pre-test and post-test it was found that using "Magic Box" has the important and determine role in teaching vocabularies to the students, as it was not possible as well as learning with just repetition and memorizing methods. Furthermore, "Magic Box" has its potential as a tool box for innovate interactive media, be able to motivate students especially the passive one in the whole teaching learning process, and also trigger the students to be more creative in innovating interactive media to improve their vocabulary.

Abstract

Review words is type of vocabulary building which is the easiest way to checking how is the students’ understanding dealing with the previous vocabulary given, especially for college students. Classroom observation research was used as the method in this study. The method is divided into some stages namely review, reduce, recycle, vocab college, role reversal, word soup, and vocab box.  It is a method of straightly observing teaching process, which the observer taking notes, and/or coding instructional performances in the classroom or from recorded activities or lesson. It is going to define some steps that we need to apply the review words. Moreover, it is still important to upgrading collage students’ vocabulary because English as EFL will be very difficult term to reach when they are not seriously concern about the vocabulary. This paper will discuss the importance of using review words in checking students understanding in the certain level of English skill.

Abstract

The unnamed character in Notes from Underground is anxious to make his life worse. The Anti-Oedipus theory of Deleuze and Guattari deals with psychological problems of people who try to make their lives worse. Territorialization is a desire to valorize certain organs and objects at the expense of others. This study applies descriptive qualitative research method since the objective is to describe and reveal how the central characters’ effort in changing his life’s condition. This study is conducted through some steps, close reading and note taking, interpreted, and concluded to identifying right quotations, phrases, dialogues and monologues. The researcher analyses and describes the results of the efforts of the unnamed central character in changing his life as theory of Deleuze and Guattari. Based on the analysis in this study, it can be concluded that the unnamed central character in Notes from Underground did some efforts to change his life in line with the Anti-Oedipus theory of Deleuze and Guattari. There are unconsciousness and consciousness desire that show how the central characters’ efforts in changing their life. Based on Deleuze and Guattari, the unnamed central character in Notes from Underground shows that his desire which supports the character to change his life condition becomes worse dominates his unconsciousness desires and his consciousness will help him to make his desire change his life condition.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate student’ motivation and teachers' motivational strategy in learning English at tenth graders MA Maarif Grabag and SMK Islam Sudirman. To evaluate students' motivation and teachers' motivational strategy in learning English, qualitative methodologies were employed. The subjects of the research were English teachers and the tenth grade students of MA Maarif Grabag and SMK Islam Sudirman. Observation, questionnaires, and interviews were utilized to collect the data. The questionnaire results showed that students' motivation of SMK Islam Sudirman were in Moderate (Tata Boga) and Low (TKR) and MA in Moderate. The Teachers' motivational strategy was in Enough level for SMK Islam and Good for MA Maarif. The analysis obtained showed that students have various motivations. Teachers' motivational strategy was conducted by the field rather than theories. Students' motivation majority was influenced by the intrinsic factors. Teachers did not fully applied theories, and did strategy as impacted by their characteristic, experience, knowledge, and condition of school which result on students' motivation as the extrinsic factors. The suggestion on this study was teachers should know and applied theories of motivation and how to motivate students to enhance their motivation in learning English.

Abstract

The goal of the study is to illustrate how Interactive Worksheets for teaching speaking is used.   Interactive Worksheet is an online interactive worksheet that was created by a lecture to encourage students to speak more. Students can record their speaking and they can get their speaking score instantly. The research uses descriptive qualitative research as its method and design. Online Interactive Worksheet, students and the result of the worksheet are the data's sources. Data collection methods include observing, interviewing, and documenting. Triangulation methodology is used by the researcher to determine the veracity of the data. Data analysis techniques include data condensing, data displaying, conclusion, and verification. The study's findings indicate that: First, help students pronounce the word correctly. Second, encourage someone to speak. Third, work on improving the students' speaking skills.  Make speaking fun for the students, and that's all. The disadvantage, is challenging for pupils to understand the meaning of a term in the text and pronounce correctly. In addition, students can look up a challenging word in a dictionary. The researcher offers recommendations in this study for the teacher, students, school, and other researchers.
