Job Satisfaction of Teachers and Student's Performance in Academics in Public Secondary Schools Olawale Abayomi Onikoyi

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine job satisfaction and academic achievement in secondary schools in the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State. The study was conducted using a descriptive survey research approach. Using a proportional random selection technique, 246 teachers from eight public secondary schools in the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State made up the study's sample size. Teachers’ Job Satisfaction and Academic Performance of Students Questionnaire (TJSAPQ) was the self-structured questionnaire used as the research tool for this study. The four-point Likert scale type was used in its creation. To examine participant biodata, descriptive statistics of percentages were utilized. Percentage and mean were then used to respond to the study questions, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistical tools were used to test the hypotheses. The researcher concluded that the academic performance of secondary schools in the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area was substantially connected with teachers' satisfaction with pay, promotion, working conditions, and human relations. However, there is no correlation between secondary school academic achievement in Ifako Ijaiye local government area and teachers' contentment with principal supervision. It was suggested that school administration and the education board acknowledge and suitably reward teachers' efforts.

Abstract

The film of this study has on the influence of the home environment on the academic performance of pupils in the Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State. The study thus examined various factors, which were likely to enhance the academic achievement of the pupils. The study then revealed that (1) parental socio-economics (2) parental level of education (3) parental motivation (4) parental income and (5) stability at home all have bearing on the academic performance of children at the primary school level. Consequently, suggestions were made for better enhancement of the academic performance of the children. However, there is no significant relationship between influences of the home environment on the academic performance of pupils in the Isolo local government area of Lagos state.

Abstract

The study investigated the teachers’ job satisfaction and its perceived influence on secondary school students’ academic performance using a descriptive survey research approach. Three research questions and two hypotheses were examined. The population consists of all public secondary school teachers in Ojodu Local Government Area of Lagos State. The study’s sample size comprised 246 teachers selected from eight public secondary schools across the Ojodu Local Government Area of Lagos State using a proportional sampling technique. A self-structured questionnaire regarding Teachers’ Job Satisfaction and perceived influence on secondary school students’ academic performance Questionnaire (TJSPSSSAPQ) was used as the research instrument. Four points Likert scale was used to calculate the respondent’s answers. Descriptive statistic of percentage was utilized to evaluate participant bio-data, percentage and mean were used to address the study issues, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation was employed to test the hypotheses. It was concluded that teachers’ satisfaction with working conditions and human relations significantly correlated with the academic performance of secondary schools in the Ojodu Local Government Area. However, it was recommended that school management and the education board should recognize the effort of teachers and reward them appropriately. They should encourage teachers through regular and prompt payment of salaries, good working conditions, regular promotions, and other welfare packages.

Abstract

The efficient and effective performance of the workforce, in turn, rests on the richness of the knowledge, skills, and abilities possessed by the workforce. Staff development both physically, socially, intellectually, and mentally is very essential in facilitating not only the level of productivity but also the development of personnel in any organization the study investigates the relevance of staff development in school administration in Education District VI, Lagos State. The study aimed to examine the relationship between satisfaction with in-service training, mentoring, workshop/seminar, principal attendance at conferences, and school administration in Education District VI, Lagos State. Five research questions were answered and five hypotheses were tested. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The sample size of the study comprised 308 teachers selected from 12 public secondaries in Education District VI of Lagos State using a stratified random sampling technique. The research instrument adopted for this study was a self-structured questionnaire which was tagged “Staff Development and School Administration Questionnaire (EATJPQ)” It was designed using the four-point Likert Scale type. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of percentage to analyze participants’ bio-data and percentage and mean were used to answer the research questions, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation and regression statistical tools were used to test the hypotheses.
