Abstract

Abstract

This paper discusses how Awkarin reproduces the myth of good influencers as part of her political image in the student action against the RKUHP on September 24, 2019. With the semiotic method developed by Roland Barthes, the author examines the meaning of denotation and connotation in Awkarin's Instagram photos that record her involvement in the action at Senayan. As a result, the authors found that Awkarin built the image of an influencer who cares about social and political issues and mobilizes all their potential to help the public. However, the myth of the good influencer Awkarin is problematic, because she only involves herself in issues that are popular in society without going into further detail Keywords  : Good Influencer, Politics of Image, Awkarin, Student Demonstration.

Abstract

This paper aims to reveal the discourse produced by mainstream and alternative media about the conflict of the cement factory construction of PT Semen Indonesia in Rembang, Central Java, Indonesia. This study has applied critical discourse methods proposed by Norman Fairclough, focusing on three discourse levels: texts, discursive practices, and socio-cultural practices. The analyses were conducted on the selected texts from June 2014 to December 2015 in Liputan6.com as the mainstream media category and Selamatkanbumi.com as the example of alternative media. This study found that Liputan6.com lacks environmental and biocentric values. It tends to support the discourse of ‘mining for welfare’. Liputan6.com has marginalized the arguments of the factory repellent by contrasting them with the experts’ and politicians’ statements without in-depth investigations on the impact of cement factory construction on the local environment. The news tends to be a one-sided reportage. Meanwhile, Selamatkanbumi.com quite aggressively publishes news about this conflict, framed with the discourse of ‘mining destroys the environment’. Selamatkanbumi.com has shown its alignment with the environmental crisis and has practiced the principal attitudes of environmental journalism, except professionalism. They were lack of professionalism since they often just published press releases or opinions that met with their interest, not processes with proper journalistic works.

Abstract

This study aims to look at the construction of tattooed bodies in cyberspace and explain gender relations in the Indonesian Tattoo Women's (PTI) virtual community. This qualitative research uses a virtual ethnographic method that involves the participation of researchers in a community. As a result, the PTI community has a style of interaction that shapes culture in cyberspace. PTI is a place for tattoo lovers, both "women" and "men, to express themselves by uploading photos of tattoos on their body parts. The embodied body, which was originally considered something permanent and natural, has turned into a hybrid body, becoming a cyberbody. Thus, the tattoo phenomenon in cyberspace goes beyond the rigid construction of male/female or feminine/masculine identity issues in real space. Because body identity in the context of cyberspace is fluid, it can be changed, shaped, and even duplicated.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the media Tirto.id and Detik.com frame the violation of Raffi Ahmad's health protocol after receiving the first batch of Covid-19 vaccinations, using the framing analysis approach developed by Robert N. Entman. The concept of Entman framing analysis is often used to examine how the media selects and accentuates certain realities before publishing them as news. Entman has four approaches in the concept of analysis to study news as text, namely by looking at how the media defines problems, diagnosing causes, then making moral decisions, and offering treatment recommendations. In this study, researchers found that Tirto.id not only troublesome Raffi Ahmad for violating health protocols after being vaccinated, but also troublesome President Joko Widodo era, which still uses celebrities or influencers to support its policies, even though it has resulted in weaknesses. Meanwhile, Detik.com tends to inflict all problems on Raffi Ahmad and has so far stopped on emphasizing social sanctions against these celebrities as punishment.
