Abstract

Pesticide exposure in the soil is indicated to affect soil fertility as well as nutrient uptake by the plant due to its active ingredient that can affect soil sorption. This research focused on organic matter effect on soil fertility (pH, organic-C, N, P, K) in the soil under several doses of pesticide exposure as well as nutrients (N, P, K) uptake by the green mustard plant. Treatments consisted of control, d and four doses of pesticide application (50%, 100%, 150%, 200% of recommendation dose), four doses of pesticide application combined with two doses of manure application (0 and 2 t ha-1). Soil pH, organic C, N, P, and K were measured before treatments and after harvest. Nutrients uptake (N, P, K) and yield of green mustard were measured at harvest.  Results of the study showed that the exposure of pesticide in soil reduced the yield of green mustard by 40% compared to control. Nutrients (N, P, K) uptake by plant decreased by 72%, 92%, dan 78% compared to control in soil with exposure of 0,2 ml pesticide 500 ml-1 water even though with the addition of organic matter.

Abstract

The utilization of eucalyptus leaf waste in the processing unit of the eucalyptus oil factory has not been carried out optimally and has great potential as raw material for making organic fertilizer in the form of compost. This study aimed to study the potential use of eucalyptus leaf compost to improve soil fertility limiting factors in Jati Plus plantations. This research was conducted at the Department of Research and Innovation of the Perhutani Forestry Institute, Cepu, Central Java, and in the chemical laboratory of the Department of Soil, FPUB. This study used a completely randomized design consisting of four treatments and three replications. The results showed that eucalyptus leaf waste could be composted with organic carbon content, total nitrogen, total P2O5, total K2O, high organic matter content, high cation exchange capacity, and neutral pH. Perhutani's Teak Plus Plantation has fertility limiting factors on the ustic soil moisture regime, alkaline soil reaction, and clay texture. Eucalyptus leaf waste compost can be used as organic material for the strategic direction of soil management in several Jati Plus Perhutani plantation areas.

Abstract

The aim of this experiment is to compare the effect of foliar fertilizer application with many nutrients (AMIDA, AMIDA+, AJIFOL and BAYFOLAN) and foliar fertilizer with single nutrient (UREA) in the increasing N and K total content of leaf and apple production. The hypotheses are (1) Application of foliar fertilizer with many nutrients having better effect to N and K total content of leaf than foliar fertilizer with single nutrient, (2) Application of foliar fertilizer with many nutrients can increase apple crop product better than foliar fertilizer with single nutrient. The experiment was carried out in the orchard of apples in Batu town from July until December 2006. Soil and leaf analysis was carried out in Soil Chemical Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, and University of Brawijaya. Factorial trial was arranged on Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replications. The treatment is P1=Water, P2=UREA, P3=AJIFOL, P4=AMIDA, P5=AMIDA+ and P6=BAYFOLAN. The result of experiment showed that the application of foliar fertilizer did not give significantly effect to N total content of leaf, K total content of leaf, biomass, fruit diameter, weight and amounts every tree. Application of foliar fertilizer with many nutrients having better effect to N and K total content of leaf and can increase apple crop product than foliar fertilizer with single nutrient. AMIDA+ and AJIFOL foliar fertilizer give biggest fruit diameter (7.2 cm), while the smallest fruit diameter on BAYFOLAN foliar fertilizer (6.7 cm). AJIFOL foliar fertilizer give highest fruit production equal to 59.16 ton/ha, while fruit production lowest on BAYFOLAN treatment equal to 40.42 ton/ha.
