Abstract

The reinforcing composition in hybrid composite can affect the material properties. Kenaf fiber (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) can be used as a reinforcement for hybrid composites with high advantage. Calcium carbonate serves as a reinforcement for composite materials and was useful for increasing stiffness. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of variations in the composition of the addition of kenaf fiber and CaCO3 powder on the flexural strength and water absorption properties of the calcium carbonate reinforced kenaf fibers/polyester hybrid composites (PTJ/SK/CaCO3) made by hand layup method. Hybrid composites were made with various compositions of CaCO3 (0%, 2.5%, 5%, 10%, and 20% by weight). The results showed that the PTJ/SK/CaCO3 (5%wt) hybrid composite had the highest flexural strength with a value of 74.87 MPa. The increase in the amount of CaCO3 powder composition showed a decrease in the water absorption of the PTJ/SK/CaCO3 hybrid composite.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the catalytic effect of ZnO on the kinetics of the decomposition reaction of burning solid waste. ZnO catalyst was chosen because it has high mobility and reactivity. samples were prepared and randomly selected consisting of 12 types of inorganic waste and 10 types of organic waste. The research instrument uses (DTA) Differential Thermal Analysis proximate testing. From this test the data in the form of a mass decrease graph will be analyzed descriptively. The description of the data is displayed through the TG-DTG curve and the calculation of the activation energy (Ea) using the fitting model. the DTG curve identifies three peaks indicating the decomposition stages of the three components have different characteristics. The decomposed components are 1. lignocellulosic organic and low stability organic components, 2. Volatile substances from plastic components, 3. hydrocarbon residues and ash reformation. The combustion temperature increases in samples with high catalyst concentrations, but the burnout temperature decreases in samples with high catalyst concentrations. The DTA curve shows the increased reactivity of samples with high catalyst concentrations. Oxidative reactions which are exothermic/external heating increase in samples with high catalyst concentrations. The catalytic effect on the addition of zinc-oxide (ZnO) catalyst concentration to the components showed a decrease in the hydrocarbon component and an increase in the short chain hydrocarbon component. Increasing the concentration of zinc-oxide (ZnO) catalyst in the sample increases the activation energy. However, overall the addition of catalyst concentration in the combustion of organic-inorganic solid waste samples was able to reduce the activation energy at the end of the combustion reaction

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi arus las terhadap kuat tarik dan kekerasan las SMAW dengan elektroda E308 pada pelat baja Stainless stell 304. Besar variasi penggunaan arus las adalah 60, 80 dan 100 ampere. Penelitian ini dilakuakn dengan membuat pengujian specimen dengan variasi arus las sebesar 60 ampere, 80 ampere dan 100 ampere yang kemudian dilakukan pengujian tarik dan kekerasan dengan tujuan mengetahui pengaruh yang diakibatkan oleh variasi arus terhadap tegangan tarik, kekuatan dan kekerasan sambungan las. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa semakin tinggi arus pengelasan kekuatan tarik semakin meningkat. Kekuatan tarik terendah pada arus 60 ampere, yaitu dengan nilai rata-rata sebesar 59,58 kg/mm2, sedangkan kekuatan tarik tertinggi pada arus 100 ampere, yaitu dengan nilai rata-rata 63,03 kg/mm2. Pada daerah lasan, nilai kekerasan tertinggi diperoleh pada sampel 60 Ampere, yaitu sebesar 91,83 HRB dan nilai kekerasan terendah pada sampel 100 Ampere, yaitu sebesar 89,23 HRB. Hasil data pengujian kemudian dilakukan uji varian (ANOVA) satu faktor di mana   terdapat perbedaan dari variasi arus listrik pengelasan pada proses pengelasan SMAW terhadap nilai kekuatan tarik dan kekerasan sambungan las material stainless steel 304.
