Abstract

Film sebagai media merupakan salah satu sarana untuk mengetahui ideologi kekuasaan yang berjalan di ranah gender melalui representasi peran perempuan dan laki-laki. Pembentukan karakter dalam Film action hollywood secara konvensional adalah perempuan pelengkap dan pemanis bagi pahlawan laki-laki. Film Mad Max Fury Road” bertujuan untuk mengetahui kekuasaan perempuan sebagai kaum yang diopresi oleh laki-laki. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik analisis feminis dari Sara Mills : Karakter, Fragmentasi, Fokalisasi dan Schemata. Mad Max Fury Road menampilkan tokoh perempuan maskulin menggunakan elemen kekuasaan yang identik dengan atribut kelaki-lakian. Sedangkan tokoh perempuan feminin memiliki kekuasaan dengan kecantikan dan keindahan, serta sifat manja, lemah, dan tergantung. Fragmentasi karakter perempuan maskulin direpresentasikan melalui lengan dan kepala sebagai tanda kekuatan fisik. Karakter sebaliknya, direpresentasikan melalui wajah, dada, pinggang, dan betis sebagai tanda kekuatan seksual. Sudut pandang kekuasaan ditunjukkan melalui dominasi karakter maskulin yang menarasikan karakter feminin sebagai objek. Dalam schemata terdapat konstruksi power maskulinitas dan feminitas yang berbeda dan bias sebagai strategi perlawanan dan penundukan perempuan.

Abstract

Woman has always been the one to blame in infidelity. The woman is also the one who got stigmas from society as the mistress. When a woman who got stigmas trying to speak, it showed her fight against those stigmas through her voice. This research’s aim is to know about how woman’s voice presents to against the society's dominant mindset such as the label and stigma that given to woman. This descriptive-qualitative research uses feminism discourse analysis by Sara Mills to analyze dialog, video and comments in four elements which are character, fragmentation, focalization, and schemata. The outcome of this research showed that woman still cannot get away from stigma and label that given to her, even though she is already trying to speak up against it. Mulan Jameela, as a woman who is inferior to society, shows she fights through her voice but didn’t make it. She missed the chance to answer society’s judges towards her through this video because she is still in the same perspective as the commenters; how to be a good mother, how to be a supportive wife, her denial on the blame that given to her in infidelity, also the perspective she used to see how her relationship with Ahmad Dhani –her husband. Mulan Jameela is stuck in society dominant mindsets that make her to be the mistress who is indeed the only one to blame in infidelity. At the end, the fight that Mulan Jameela tried to do with her voice against society, didn’t make her out of the topics and the mindset of dominant thinking which society is believed in.

Abstract

Persit is organization consisted by Indonesian army wives. Membership in Persit is obliged and position in Persit influenced by rank and position of Persit’s husband. Many women are proud and wishes to become a member of Persit. Position in Persit determined by rank and position of husband deprives self of Persit members as a woman. This research attempts to look at how other capitals used by the wives of soldiers in interacting within the organization which focused on the husband's rank and position. Every woman has its capitals to participate in the group, is no exception Persit members who use the symbolic capital which is the rank of the husband. In Persit there must be other capitals that can be used by members Persit to be seen without the use of ranks and positions husband.The methods used on this research is qualitative methods with a critical ethnographic analysis. The theory and concepts used in this study is the Speech Codes Theory (SCT) by Philipsen, the concept of modalities by Bourdieu, and the concept of power and subjectivity by Foucault. The study found there are two capital are visible in Persit which is simbolic capital and social capital. In addition there are three codes are very visible in Persit which is codes of dignity, codes of loyalty and codes of power. Codes of dignity are used to indicate the position of the highest person in the group which can be seen through the language selection, how member Persit called other member. Codes of loyalty are used to demonstrate compliance a member Persit which see conversation topics tend to be avoided when talking with other members, the feeling when doesn't follow Persit activity and courage in expressing opinions.Codes of power are showing that assert authority in a bind Persit organization for its members to follow the activities of Persit and speak according to the position and rank of her husband. In all three of these codes Persit member, using the symbolic capital there is rank husband. Symbolic capital is very strong in the organization Persit which, although members Persit using another of its capital, but still Persit member positions as seen from the rank of the husband. The position and rank of the husband make Persit member, using social capital when interacting with members of other Persit member. This social capital is used for to maintain good relations with members of both Persit which is higher or equal. Persit members who use this social capital tend to avoid criticism or suggestions to members Persit which is higher than herself. Besides the position of members Persit can also be seen when she joined the management Persit. Persit member can use his ability in the arts / sports and work experience to be appointed as board Persit.

Abstract

This research envisages information about how the construction of masculinty showed on @LMEN’s Instagram influences male’s perspective in case of the ideal appearance of masculinity. The purposes of this research are to analyze how @LMEN’s Instagram constructs the male’s masculinity and how the man interprets those of masculinity concepts. Critical paradigm is used to analyze this research, furthurmore, this research also uses reception analysis method written by Ien Ang. Muscular Male Body Ideal Theory Susan Bordo and Disciplining The Body Theory Michel Foucault used as a theory that explains how the criteria muscular body as a symbol of men’s masculinity develops in the privacy and public, as well as the disciplinary body of what is being done to meet the image of the ideal man who constructed by media. The results showed the informant meaning of the meaning of dominant (preferred reading) have a diversity of meanings for different background influenced, among others, by categories of weight, age and occupation. Preferred reading offered on medium text Instagram is a man to be conducted disciplinary body form of exercise regime using the tool weights at the gym and taking supplements of L-MEN to have a muscular body (mesomoprh) to be recognized masculinity, a male figure that is ideal, strong, inspire, attractive, handsome and sexy. There are groups of informants men who have the same meaning with the dominant meaning, and there are groups that have meaning outside of the dominant meaning because it is associated with an internal value on themselves. And the informant dominant group are those who accept the dominant meaning of the text media from Instagram L-MEN.

Abstract

Performativitas gender Aming dan Evelin yang ditampilkan melalui Instagram merepresentasikan sebuah gagasan alternatif yang berbeda dengan ideologi gender dominan. Idealnya, Instagram sebagai media baru memungkinkan adanya relasi yang setara antara pihak-pihak yang terlibat dalam komunikasi. Ideologi gender dominan menghendaki heteroseksualitas, laki-laki dan perempuan harus berpenampilan, berperan dan bertindak berdasarkan jenis kelaminnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan komunikasi performativitas gender Aming dan Evelin di Instagram. Penelitian ini menggunakan Gender Performativity Theory dan Teori Media Baru, serta Analisis Wacana Kritis Sara Mills sebagai teknik analisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Aming dan Evelin mengkomunikasikan performativitas gender sebagai bentuk perlawanan terhadap ideologi gender dominan, akan tetapi sekaligus juga menunjukkan ketundukkannya terhadap ideologi tersebut. Karakter, fragmentasi, dan fokalisasi dikomunikasikan oleh Aming dan Evelin melalui Instagram sehingga memunculkan dialog antara Aming-Evelin dengan netizen melalui komentar yang menghasilkan adanya perubahan pada ekspresi dan peran gender Aming dan Evelin. Evelin mengubah penampilan tubuhnya menjadi lebih feminin untuk memperoleh pengakuan dan penerimaan dari masyarakat akan identitasnya sebagai perempuan dan sebagai seorang istri.

Abstract

Movie as a form of mass media has the capability to deliver a message to its audiences. Movie become an exact alternative to picture child sexuality. Tomboy is a movie that tries to present child sexuality issue which underrepresented, the story of LGBTQ child living in a conservative neighborhood. So far, LGBTQ child issue considered to be very taboo in society so not much discussed in various domains including movie. The lack of public understanding about LGBTQ child brings out negative speculation about that and finally give an effect of improper handling in the cases of child sexuality. This study aims to describe about LGBTQ children narration in Tomboy movie, using descriptive qualitative method with narrative analysis. This research used, Perspective in Homosexual Theory, Queer Theory, Children Film and Homosexual Theory, Narrative Theory and Film Narrative Analysis. The study found how LGBTQ child narrated in a movie. The findings were compiled in a few points: 1) Child in this movie narrated in the style of storytelling that flows properly as if everyday life with a progressive plot. 2) Child in this movie narrated has LGBTQ tendency (tomboy and lesbian tendency). 3) Child in this movie narrated has LGBTQ tendency because of her own desire not because of another factor. The idea is in line with homosexual theory perspective that claim in some cases, LGBTQ child has discomfort gender roles based on sex as he or she get from birth. 4) Child in this movie narrated performs some efforts and struggle to become a perfect boy. 5) Child in this movie narrated must experience some conflicts because she lives in a conservative neighborhood. 6) Child performativity in this movie does not create a new different gender category, but rather mimics the original which is boy. 7) Child in this movie narrated in the style of art cinema narration. The style provide space for the audience to better appreciate the atmosphere in the ongoing events because the duration of the scene is made longer. And because the style is based on art, the camera technique can be neatly framed the character detail expression and gesture in an event. 8) The power of narration lies in the expression of the main character. Close-up and medium close-up shot types in almost every scene help to potray it.
