Abstract

This study tries to investigate the lipa'sabbe (lip seb) shape, style, and meaning. Researchers carried out their studies at Tosora Village, Majauleng sub-district, kab, one of Sengkang City's first weaving communities. Wajo. This study is a qualitative descriptive one that gives a general summary of the appearance, usage, and significance of the lipa'sabbe (lip seb). The Tosora village community, kec. Majaleng, was seen, interviewed, and documented as part of the study's data gathering procedures. According to the research findings, lipa'sabbe (lip seb) patterns may be categorized into three categories: traditional patterns, semi-traditional patterns, and modern patterns. Abstract

This research was conducted to measure the student's ability to understand idiomatic expressions and to find out the student’s difficulty in understanding idiomatic expressions. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method as the research methodology. The population in this study is the fourth-semester students in the English education department, faculty of teacher, training, and education of Muhammadiyah University of Sidenreng Rappang, and the sample in this study is 29 students (4 male students and 25 female) fourth semester, English department, faculties of teacher, training, and education of Muhammadiyah University of Sidenreng Rappang. The data collection methods used in this research are written test, interview, and recorder. A written test was chosen to measure students'' ability to identify idiomatic expressions, interviews were used to find out the student’s difficulty in understanding idiomatic expressions, and the recorder were used to record the interview process and also as data documentation. The data obtained from the test will be processed with a scoring technique and the data obtained from the interview will be processed by the descriptive analysis method. As the result of the study, the written test shows that 2 students categorized on a very good level, 7 on Good, 5 on Average, 3 on Poor, and 3 on very poor, while the interview shows that as many as 62% of respondents have difficulty because they lack vocabulary, 19% of respondents have difficulty understanding idioms based on their language style, and 33% of respondents have difficulty understanding idioms.

Abstract

One of the most controversial curriculums implemented in Indonesia is 2013 curriculum. After the government assigned that in 2023 all of schools are expected to use the 2013 curriculum, yet in December 2014 the Ministry of Education changed the obligation with stated that the school that implemented the 2013 curriculum for about one semester should go back to KTSP curriculum. Frequently curriculum change in Indonesia give impact for teaching and learning process and to education stockholder. This study aimed to investigate the implementation of the 2013 curriculum in English teaching practice, to know the problems that teacher and student faces in the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum in ELT practice, and also to analysis the students’ perception toward ELT practice related to the implementation of the 2013 curriculum. Descriptive qualitative research is the design of this research. Subjects of this research are English teacher and student of one vocational school in Indonesia. The data were collected by using triangulation method namely interview, observation and documentation. Semi-structured interview used to get the data about the English teacher’s understanding toward the implementation of the 2013. Classroom observation use to observed the English teacher’s teaching practice in implementing the 2013 curriculum. The researcher also interviewed students to know the students’ perception toward the ELT practices and the problems face by students in ELT practice. The data from interview and were analyzed through interactive model analysis develop by Miles and Huberman (1994). Findings showed that the teacher’s understanding toward the aspects in teaching process of Standard Process of the 2013 Curriculum was satisfactory. In the main activities, teacher’s teaching practice is accordance with the teaching process of the standard process of the 2013 curriculum. The limited time allotted for English subject was the main problems in teaching English by implementing the 2013 curriculum. The students’ perception toward the ELT process in their class was positive because all of them stated that the English class was enjoyable. The most problem that the students found in learning English is speaking. Based on the students’ interview, the researcher assumed, the limited time to practice English cause the difficulty in speaking.
