Abstract

Bali cattle are one of the local cattle breeds that can recognize new environments well. Information on diversity and reproductive performance in cow Bali cattle still does not have much information related to reproductive characteristics and performances. This study aims to determine the diversity of phenotypes and reproductive traits in cow Bali cattle in the Berau district, East Kalimantan. This research was conducted in August – September 2020 in two sub-districts, namely Sambaliung and Talisayan sub-districts at Berau District. The study used cow Bali cattle aged 24-36 months. Data were taken from measurements that have been made of cow Bali cattle which include measurements of shoulder height, body length, and chest circumference as well as the reproductive performance of cow Bali cattle. The data obtained were analyzed by a coefficient of variance, simple linear regression, and the mean of reproductive performance. The results showed that the diversity values of shoulder height, body length, and chest circumference were 3.81%, 5.16%, and 4.02%, respectively. Body length has the highest diversity value compared to other phenotype traits, namely chest circumference and a shoulder height of 5.16%. The results of the regression analysis showed that all phenotypic traits had significant results, indicating that changes in body size characteristics will affect body weight gain. Based on reproductive characteristics, it is known that the average age at first pregnancy in cow Bali cattle is 18.2 months, it is also known that the average age at first giving birth is 17.93 and for how many times to give birth at the age of 2-3 years it is known that the average 0.67. The results obtained indicate that there is a relationship between the quality of the phenotype that affects the reproductive performance of cow Bali cattle
