Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity aims to provide knowledge and insight to students regarding strategies for dealing with questions in the TOEFL so that they can prepare for the real TOEFL test. The mastery of English skills especially TOEFL needs to be carried out as the alternative solution for students in preparing for graduation and working. Method: The methods used in this activity are training, coaching, monitoring, and evaluation. Results: This activity has achieved the expected goal of increasing students' knowledge and insight regarding the fast and appropriate way that can be applied in answering TOEFL questions. Conclusions: Based on tutorial observations for approximately 3 months of participating in TOEFL training, it shows that students' understanding in mastering the TOEFL material increased quite significantly.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how the English is used in the business workplace. The researcher used a quantitative and descriptive qualitative method. The data used in this study are from open-ended questionnaire to the employees working in economics and business. The results showed that of the 17 worker participants, 11 participants (36.67%) thought that reading was most useful in the workplace, such as analyzing or auditing financial reports, preparing documents and calculating bills, operating software and understanding documents of export and import goods, processing data on a computer, using applications related to data calculation input, studying information about international bank rules, reading journals, opening current and personal savings accounts, reading financial reports, and other activities. Meanwhile, 9 participants (30%) agreed that speaking skills are often used in the workplace. The speaking activity is serving customers from various countries, being interviewed in the recruitment process. Listening skills were obtained by 5 participants (16.67%), which mean that they are rarely applied by the participants. In applying Listening skills, participants use them in understanding conversations. There were 5 participants (16.67%) who chose writing such as answering emails, writing essays, opening checking accounts, and saving savings, making financial reports. The result also reflects the workers’ learning experiences while learning English in the colleges that show several topic discussion they learnt such as Introduction, and general English, the topics about finance/ accounting, financial reports, venture capital, stocks and bonds, which are usually useful in meetings with foreign principals or other employees and the supervisor, writing, reading, discussion, communication, vocabularies, determination of the stock price index, management, recruitment, accounting, financial statement, Learn accounting in English and also conversation is very useful at work, and vocabularies about accounts related to financial statements. In addition, other participants responded that English learnt on campus and applied at work are different. Not all English skills are applied in the respondents' workplace, only reading is used most often. In term of English needs in the workplace, the professionals also need Speaking skills and English terms in the business context.

Abstract

Teaching is a dynamic process that involves a quick decision-making process and is also an activity that refers to what students need. This decision-making process often appears as a reflection of what the teacher believes and also as a reflection of the theory adopted by the institution where the teacher works. This can then be said as evidence to claim that the concept (belief) that is believed by the teacher influences the decisions about learning practices and influences the activities that the teacher does in the classroom. Every teacher has belief as a basic reference that they believe in teaching as well as a reference for overcoming obstacles that occur in the teaching and learning process in the classroom. This study will examine whether there is a difference between perceptions language teacher of English in the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in Unila. This study uses English lecturer as the sample from two different faculties in Unila. The questionnaire is distributed to selected respondents and will then be analyzed descriptively and qualitatively.Keywords: Teaching belief, perception, English Lecturer, EFL.

Abstract

Educators and education staff have the same role and task, namely carrying out various activities that lead to the creation of convenience and success for students in learning. The role of educators in facilitating school administration is very important because they have great duties and responsibilities for the smooth running of teaching and learning activities in schools. Every school requires skilled, reliable educators, and understand the job description. The formulation of the problem in this paper is first, what is included in school administration? Second, what is the role of education personnel in school administration? The purpose of this study is to increase understanding of the concept of school administration and the professional ethics of education personnel in school administration. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach. Data collection techniques by taking data in the library, reading, taking notes, and processing research material. Based on the results of the data analysis, several conclusions were found as follows regarding matters covered in school administration, namely 1. Curriculum Administration, 2. Student Administration, 3. Infrastructure Administration, 4. Financial Administration and 5. Public Relations Administration. The role of education personnel in school administration is to play an active role in quality service efforts, and the formation of professional human resources in the field of school development and administration. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis kebutuhan bahasa Inggris pada mahasiswa Akuntansi di perguruan tinggi, dan mengetahui kesesuaian pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Bisnis di Jurusan Akuntansi Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa baik kebutuhan Bahasa Inggris untuk keperluan akademik (English for Academic Purposes (EAP) maupun Bahasa Inggris untuk keperluan bekerja/ English for Work Purposes (English for Occupational Purposes / EOP). Penelitian ini menggunakan sampel primer berupa buku teks dan RPS Bahasa Inggris for Business.Selain itu, sampel sekunder yang digunakan adalah angket dan wawancara dengan siswa, alumni, dan pengajar Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data dianalisis menggunakan konsep analisis kebutuhan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam dunia kerja bidang akuntansi keterampilan yang paling dominan dibutuhkan adalah keterampilan membaca, Kemudian materi ajar bahasa inggris yang diajarkan pada mahasiswa Akuntansi kurang berkorelasi dengan kebutuhan akademik dan dunia kerja. Hasil analisis kebutuhan pada penelitian ini selanjutnya akan digunakan sebagai bahan/acuan untuk pengembangan bahan ajar dan pengajaran bahasa Inggris Bisnis sehingga target pengajaran dapat terlaksana lebih tepat sasaran.Need analysis for business English learning for accounting studentsThis study aims to analyze the English language needs of accounting students at universities and determine the suitability of learning Business English in the Accounting Department, Faculty of Economics and Business with the needs of students in both English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for academic purposes. English for Work Purposes (English for Occupational Purposes / EOP). This study used primary samples in the form of textbooks and English lesson plans for Business. In addition, secondary samples used were questionnaires and interviews with students, alumni, and language teachers. English. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data is analyzed using the concept of needs analysis. The results showed that in the world of work in the accounting field the most dominant skill needed was reading skills. Then the English teaching materials taught to accounting students were less correlated with academic needs and the world of work. The results of the needs analysis in this study will then be used as material/reference for the development of teaching and teaching materials for Business English so that teaching targets can be carried out more precisely.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini mengukur lima dimensi untuk mengukur  SMMA (sosial media marketing activity). Dimensi pemasaran media sosial antara lain interaktif, informatif, personalisasi, trend, dan WOM. Sampel dalam survei ini adalah pelanggan e-commerce di media sosial. Sampel sebanyak 103 responden menggunakan teknik non probability sampling teknik purposive sampling. Hasil pada penelitian ini bahwa ada pengaruh secara simultan interaktif (X1), informatif (X2), personalisasi (X3), trend (X4), dan word of mouth (X5) terhadap sosial media marketing activity. Secara parsial interaktif berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap sosial media marketing, personalisasi berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap sosial media marketing, sedangkan informatif tidak berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap sosial media marketing, trend tidak berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap sosial media marketing, dan word of mouth tidak mempunyai pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan terhadap sosial media marketing.

Abstract

Permasalahan sampah telah menjadi sorotan beberapa negara terutama di Indonesia, terlebih sampah plastik yang dapat mencemari lingkungan. Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis Universitas Lampung berkerjasama dengan PT. Pegadaian (Persero) mendukung kegiatan pengelolaan sampah di kelurahan Sukamenanti Baru, Kedaton Bandar Lampung. Adapun dukungan tersebut antara lain penyuluhan dan literasi keuangan serta kelestarian lingkungan melalui bank sampah. Bank sampah di kelurahan Sukamenanti Baru, Kedaton Bandar Lampung sudah berdiri selama 3 tahun namun belum berjalan dengan baik terutama terkait pengelolaan keuangan. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini antara lain mengedukasi masyarakat terkait cara pengelolaan keuangan di bank sampah agar lebih terkelola dengan baik, serta memotivasi masyarakat agar meningkatkan penghasilan antara lain dengan mengolah sampah menjadi tabungan emas. Peserta pelatihan berjumlah 30 orang. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa peserta antusias dan termotivasi untuk Kembali mengelola bank sampah yang selama ini terhenti karena masa pandemic covid-19 pada 2 tahun lalu, Dengan demikian, dampak kegiatan penyuluhan ini ialah meningkatnya motivasi masyarakat untuk mempersiapakan tabungan masa depan yang aman dan efektif dengan cara pengelolaan sampah di bank sampah. Kegiatan ini dapat menambah pengetahuan masyarakat terkait pengelolaan sampah secara berkelanjutan dan meningkatkan kesadaran untuk mewujudkan kelestarian lingkungan.

Abstract

Mengembangkan bisnis UMKM terkadang membutuhkan biaya yang tidak sedikit, dan solusi permodalan lembaga keuangan bisa menjadi pilihan utama para pengusaha. Sayangnya, tidak banyak pelaku UMKM yang dapat memanfaatkan fasilitas financial technology dalam menjalankan usahanya. Hal ini disebabkan beberapa faktor, salah satunya pelaku UMKM yang non-bankable. Fintech juga menjadi salah satu solusi bagi UMKM berdomilisi jauh dari pusat kota untuk memdapatkan permodalan. Tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat FEB-Unila telah mengadakan pelatihan  pemanfaatan fintech bagi UMKM di Bandar Lampung. Adapun output dari kegiatan ini yaitu peningkatan pemahaman peserta terkait beberapa produk fintech yang legal dan terdaftar di OJK yang dapat menjadi solusi bagi permasalahan permodalan para pelaku UMKM di Bandar Lampung sehingga terhindar dari pinjaman bodong atau tidak legal. Hasil uji pengetahuan sebelum dan sesudah pelatihan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan peserta terkait pemanfaatan produk fintech untuk pengembangan usaha.

Abstract

Communication plays an important role in today's global environment because everyone will be inseparable from communication activities. Language is a communication tool used as a means to express and convey information, to learn about people and the world around them. This study describes the use of communication strategies in  English classes in the Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Lampung (FEB Unila). This study aims to find out how the use of  communication strategies  by students during discussions in class and  their speaking skills in using these communication strategies.  This study used a case study approach to investigate the use of communication strategies at the perspective  of language proficiency because the most significant predictor of  the use of a particular communication strategy was language proficiency. The subjects of this study were taken purposively as  much as 1 class with a total of 36 students with high and low proficiency levels. They are first-year students of the S1 Management Department at FEB Unila. In this study, researchers used several data sources, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. This is intended to answer research questions based on data triangulation so that the data obtained is more reliable. The results of this study show that there are nine communication strategies used by learners in speaking for discussion; message abandonment, approximation, stalling, literal translation, code switching, convoluted, begging for help, mime, and using versatile words. The study also found that the strategies used in learning influenced learning outcomes in English communication where strategies such as approximation, literal translation, stalling, convoluted, asking for help, and mime greatly helped learners to express their ideas in discussions and were shown to get good and excellent grades in almost all speaking performance criteria.  Keywords: Communication Strategies, English Language Teaching, Business English.
