Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh media massa terhadap isu populeritas Obama dalam Pemilihan Presiden Amerika Serikat dari tahun 2009 hingga 2013, dan pengaruh berita-berita yang dieksploitasi terhadap pendapat para aktivis mahasiswa di Makassar.  Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif  melalui analisis data yang direduksi, dipresentasikan, dan disimpulkan yang diperoleh darin hasil interview. Para informan adalah para mahasiswa dari Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Muslem Indonesia, Universitas 45, Universitas Negeri Makassar, dan Universitas Islam Negeri Alauddin Makassar. Unit analisisnya adalah berita-berita media massa tentang Obama dari pertengahan tahun 2008 sampai awal tahun 2009 dan tipe issu yang menyangkut tentang identitas ras Obama, latar belakang kehidupan Obama, Pandangan dunia Islam, dan masa anak-anak Obama di Indonesia. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemberitaan media massa memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan meski dalam jumlah kecil kapan saja masyarakat memperoleh informasi  secara kontinyu. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa media massa memiliki pengaruh yang kuat terhadap pendapat para aktivis mahasiswa misalnyta dari televisi, internet, dan surat kabar. Dari aspek kategori sosial terhadap pendapat para aktivis mahasiswa cenderung sama terhadap pengaruh media.ABSTRACTThis research aims to find out the effect of mass media on the siginificant of issues of Obama’s popularity in the US President election from 2009 to 2013 and the effect of news exploitation in the form of student activist’s opinion in Makassar. This research was descriptive qualitative study through analysis of data reductiuon, data presentation, and data conclusion obtained through interview. The informans were student from Hasanuddin University, Indonesian Moslem University, 45 University, Makassar State University, Alauddin State Islamic University of Makassar. The unit of analysis were mass media news on Obama from mid 2008 to early 2009 and types of issues on Obama’s racial identity, Obama background, and Moslem world, Obama’s childhood in Indonesia. The result show that mass media have a significant effect even in a small amount when the public was informed continually . It is also found that certain mass media give strong effect to student activist’s opinion such as television, internet, and newspaper. Then social categories in sama level in this case Makassar student activist’s tent to have similar response to media effect.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of mass media on issues significant to the popularity of Obama s U.S. presidential election and the 2009-2014 exploitation of mass media effects on the formation of opinion among student activists in Makassar. This is a descriptive qualitative research. Data obtained from interviews with the informants research namely Makassar student activist who was taken from the Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Muslim Indonesia, Universitas 45, State University of Makassar, Alauddin State Islamic University, Makassar. The unit of analysis is the study of mass media about Barack Obama s Indonesia during the period mid 2008 - early 2009 with news of Obama s racial identity, the background of Obama and the Muslim world, and Obama s child hoodin Indonesia. The result showed that the mass media can give the slightest effect when the audience is continuously exposed. In this research found that mass media is believed by student activists to give effect to the formation of public opinion is television, internet, and newspapers. Then the social categories that same level in this group of student activists in Makassar likely to provide a uniform response to media exposure.
