Abstract

Recently, the Makassar region is a significant land use planning and management issue, and has many impacts on the ecological function and structure landscape. With the development and infrastructure initiatives mostly around the urban centers, the urbanization and sprawl would impact the environment and the natural resources. Therefore, environmental management and careful strategic spatial planning in landscape ecological network is crucial when aiming for sustainable development. In this paper, the impacts of land use changes from 1997 to 2012 on the landscape ecological connectivity in the Makassar region were evaluated using Geographic Information System (GIS). The resulted GIS analysis clearly showed that land use changes occurring in the Makassar region have caused profound changes in landscape pattern. The spatial model had a predictive capability allowing the quantitative assessment and comparison of the impacts resulting from different land use on the ecological connectivity index. The results had an effective performance in identifying the vital ecological areas and connectivity prior to development plan in areas.

Abstract

Socialisation and Accompaniment of The Waste Management System in Making School Scale Compost in SD Inpres Kantisang, Tamalanrea Abstract. At present, waste has become a severe problem that must be handled by the government and the community. Waste can damage the environment resulting in environmental pollution. Therefore, the proposal for the Community Service program is the socialisation and assistance of the waste management system in terms of making school scale compost, which is intended to convert organic waste into compost that is beneficial to plants and of economic value by using the Takakura composter. SD Inpres Kantisang, located in BTN Antara, Tamalanrea-Makassar became a partner or target audience in the proposed program. The problems faced by partners are: (1) not yet separated organic and inorganic waste in the school environment, (2) the presence of organic waste generated from the school environment and residents around the school that are not treated and utilized, (3) lack of knowledge of students in addressing the problem of organic waste, and (4) students do not yet know how to properly use and process organic waste, one of which is to process it into compost. The solution offered through this proposal is to conduct socialisation and assistance in the form of short training to teachers and students in making compost using the Takakura composter method from the waste generation in the school and surrounding areas. The method used in achieving these objectives is divided into five stages: the preliminary preparation, the program preparation, the implementation, the evaluation, and the sustainability of the program. The results of this activity are: (1) teachers and students of SD Inpres Kantisang have been able to separate organic and non-organic waste well, (2) an increase in the application of science and technology within the school environment, and (3) an improvement in governance value in the target audience. Keywords: waste, environment, compost, school, Takakura composterAbstrak. Abstract

The increase in urban slum areas provokes the adaptation impact of the community towards the capability conflict and the need for shelter. Slums management by displacing residents often raises new problems that are equally complicated. Hence, another alternative treatment by maintaining household-scale green open space (RTH) to improve the quality of life of the community and the environment is necessary. The problem of slums in big cities, including in the city of Makassar has not been able to be overcome properly, one of which is the problem of slums in the Mario Sub-District, Mariso District, Makassar City where the conditions of the slums are a severe result. The concept of managing the existing slums is not only producing buildings that are habitable, but also providing green open space is one of the solutions in structuring the existing area. At present, green open space not only provides open space planted with green vegetation but has the concept of Sustainable Open Green Space or known as the Green RTH concept. In this case, the concept introduced to local residents is green open where available wastewater treatment, composter and infiltration wells and biopores. It is these facilities which are expected to be able to deal directly with the problems of clean air, wastewater and waste problems that are always present in slums. The presence of the “Sustainable” Green Open Space which explains the concept of Green RTH namely green waste and green water can minimize the slums in the region. In green waste concept, 3 communal composters are made, each composter has a volume of 440 liters for 1235.775 liters / day of waste generation, while in the green water concept, a Wastewater Treatment Plant has an area of 302.8 m2, 1 infiltration well , 5 biopori infiltration holes and 2 hydrants.

Abstract

Floods in Makassar City are influenced by two main factors, namely: natural factors such as rainfall and topography, and human factors with all their activities that can affect the drainage system and the state of land cover. Most of the water drainage system in Makassar City only relies on the drainage network from small channels to large channels such as canals which are generally flowed by gravity into the sea, so that areas that have undergone a change in land cover function that were previously water infiltration into urban areas are very easy to floods because water drains cannot run properly resulting in frequent flooding, especially in areas that have low ground levels. Aquapond is a retention pond system that is widely used in Japan which functions as a temporary storage of rainwater when rainfall is high and drains it slowly after the rainfall subsides as a solution to urban water drainage management techniques which often experience overflow of water or flooding. Japanese technology retention ponds such as Aquapond were piloted in one place that often experiences flooding every year in Makassar City, namely Jalan Urip Sumohardjo in front of the South Sulawesi governor's office which is expected to be useful in managing the water drainage system which often overflows and causes flooding that disrupts traffic of road. Because the retention pond system is connected to water drainage channels, this water management method is not widely understood by the general public and the local government, so learning and outreach activities regarding planning and design, construction as well as operation and maintenance of Aquapond retention ponds are carried out. The process of implementing this service activity has involved the community, local government and Japanese experts both in the learning process in planning and design, reviewing Aquapond construction.

Abstract

Children's awareness in disposing of waste in its place is one of the important factors in learning environmental health to be healthy and clean. The basics and concepts of waste management are not merely using advanced technology, but rather require changes and the formation of behavior from each individual. The formation of individual behavior in managing waste properly needs to be instilled from an early age, which is the golden age of forming a person's behavior, which will become easier and the results more visible at a later age. The formation of waste management behavior from an early age can be started from the formation of the habit of sorting and placing waste in its place, which is expected to become a habit in the course of his life. So that togetherness in managing and creating a clean and healthy environment will be more easily realized. Partners involved in this Community Service activity are students and teachers at SDIT Ikhtiar-Makassar. The solution offered is socialization and assistance to students to dispose of waste in the provided trash cans, separate organic waste, inorganic waste, and B3 waste, and minimize waste generation with the 3R concept (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle). During the COVID-19 pandemic, direct socialization activities were replaced by handing over a pocketbook on waste sorting which contains instructions on how to sort waste. This pocketbook will be used as material in thematic learning for SDIT Ikhtiar students and as one of the supports for the school's Adiwiyata program.
