Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in students' understanding of a mathematical concept and to determine students' responses to learning a system of two-variable linear equations using a realistic approach. This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) which was conducted in class VIII-B MTs Negeri 2 Garut district. Garut with a total of 31 students with details of 19 male students and 12 female students. This research was carried out in 4 actions and 1 evaluation of all actions starting from April 11 2022 to April 25 2022. The instruments used in this research were tests and questionnaire guidelines. The test consists of 2 types, namely the formative test which is given at the end of each action and the sub-summative test which is given after all material on a system of two-variable linear equations has been completed. Formative tests and sub-summative tests are used to determine the increase in students' understanding of a concept, while questionnaire guidelines are used to determine student responses to learning a two-variable linear equation system using a realistic approach. Filling out the questionnaire was carried out after completing the sub-summative test. Data from formative test results and sub-summative tests show that learning a system of two-variable linear equations with a realistic approach can improve student understanding as indicated by the percentage of classical learning completeness and the average test score. In the first action, student learning completeness was 61.29% and the average test score was 7.09, in the second action student learning completeness was 87.09% and the average test score was 8.59, in the third action learning completeness students were 83.87% and the average test score was 8.23, in the fourth act of student completeness it was 90.32% and the average test score was 8.84, and in the evaluation of all measures of student completeness it was 93, 55% and the average test score is 9.08. Meanwhile, from the results of the questionnaire data, it can be concluded that students' responses to learning a two-variable linear equation system using a realistic approach are positive.
