Abstract

Commercials are unavoidable these days. They accompany us in everyday life. They are intended to motivate people to do something specific in the interests of the advertiser (Janich, 2013). There are plenty of studies conducted to examine the language function in advertisements. However, only few studies have been undertaken to investigate language function in commercials. Supriyono (2015) has conducted a study on language functions found in Mizone Fres’in TV Commercial based on Hymes and Grumperz’s (1964) theory of language function. Lestari (2018) has also investigated language functions, based on Jakobson (1960), used in twenty Maybelline commercials published in 2016 and 2018. Particular commercials were further studied in the present research, German supermarket TV Commercials, and which language function was emphasized. The results showed that the referential function was emphasized in the commercials.

Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of using the Think Pair Share learning model on the ability to understand the text in the Arbeit am Text course. The TPS learning model is a cooperative learning model that can increase learner participation in the learning process. The sample for this research was the fifth-semester students of the 2019/2020 academic year with 22 students as respondents. This study consists of two variables, namely the independent variable and the dependent variable. The independent variable is the TPS learning model, while the dependent variable is the ability to understand the text. The method used in this research is an experimental method using data collection techniques Pre and Post Test. The data were then analyzed using the T-Test. With a significant level of α = 0.05, the results of the analysis show that the t count is greater than the t table, namely 7.93 ≥ 1.72. This shows that there is a significant effect of using the TPS learning model on students' ability to understand the text. Based on the results, it is concluded that the TPS learning model contributes to the improvement of students' ability to understand German language texts in the Arbeit am Text course

Abstract

This study investigates how implementing the Flipped Classroom model can improve high school students' German language learning outcomes at Lab Unpatti High School. The Flipped Classroom is a blended learning approach combining face-to-face interaction with online activities, integrating synchronous (real-time) learning with asynchronous (self-paced) study. This model moves the initial information delivery outside the classroom, allowing class time to be used for deeper knowledge assimilation. The study involved 24 tenth-grade students from Lab Unpatti High School. An experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design was employed. Data collection instruments included tests and questionnaires. Data analysis using a t-test showed that the calculated t-value (5.055) significantly exceeded the t-table value (1.710). This significant difference indicates a substantial improvement in learning outcomes, with students' average German scores increasing by over 89%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Flipped Classroom model effectively enhances students' learning outcomes.
