Abstract

Intercultural understanding skills in learning reading through the Flipped Learning Model (FLM). Learning a language is a conscious effort to improve the competencies that are the main target of a learning process, but indirectly learners will also be introduced to the culture of the language that is studied. FLM is an instructional didactic learning model that has a pillar of cultural benchmarking that is packed through the implementation of digital technology media that will facilitate learning both in the classroom and out of class. This study aims to obtain information on the ability to cross-cultural understanding in learning to read German through FLM. This research is a qualitative study and conducted in the German language education study Program Faculty of Language and Literature of Makassar State University with the number of samples as much as 25 people. Data is collected through field records, observations, interviews and reading ability tests to determine the cross-cultural understanding of students of the German language and analyzed qualitatively and by using the percentage technique. The results showed that FLM had a significant impact on student enthusiasm in reading learning. It is backed by a percentage of the cross-cultural understanding ability of 80.20%.

Abstract

Abstrak. The study's purpose is to know the effectiveness of google classroom in learning Lesen und Schreiben courses during the COVID-19 pandemic for students of the German education department of the Faculty of Language and Literature Makassar State University. The research design of this study is quasi-experiment. The research was managed at the Faculty of Language and Literature by adopting online learning when giving treatment. A study sample of 25 students of the 2020/2021 academic year. Data on the study was obtained through reading and writing tests and documentation. This research data was analyzed by using the t-one tile test. The results of the analysis showed that Google classroom had significance to the competence of reading and writing German students with tscore (10,975) > ttable (1,714) in reading competence and tscore (8,292) > ttable (1,714) on writing competence. Based on the research data analysis, it can be concluded that google classroom is effective in learning Lesen und Schreiben for students of the German Language Education Study Program of the Faculty of Language and Literature UNM during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Kata Kunci: Google Classroom, Learning Lesen und Schreiben, the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

This research is a collaborative scientific and qualitative study (mixed method) using the concurrent transformative strategy method, which aims to obtain data and information related to the effectiveness of problem-based learning models in foreign language learning in higher education. The research was conducted at the Department of Foreign Language Education, Faculty of Language and Literature, State University of Makassar. The population of this study is all students in the even semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. This study's sample is all students in the second semester of the German, Arabic, and Chinese Language Education Study Program. Research data were obtained from participatory observations, tests and documentation. The instrument of this study is an observation sheet for learning activities and competency tests for foreign languages (German, Arabic, and Chinese). The qualitative data of this study were analysed using the Miles and Hubermann model, which consisted of four stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Meanwhile, the research data were analysed using IBM SPSS 26. The study results show that students' foreign language competence through a problem-based learning model is in the moderate category. The average effect of learning German for students was 78.87. The average score of students was 78.43, and students' Chinese outcomes were 78.95. Related to the effectiveness of problem-based learning models on foreign language learning, on German language learning, problem-based learning models are effective in listening competence, writing skills and speaking skills. Problem-based learning models could be more effective against reading competence. The problem-based learning model for Arabic and Chinese improves writing and speaking skills. The learning model could be more effective in listening and reading competencies.
