Abstract

The aims of this study is to find out the types of language variations as part of sociolinguistics. Here the focus of the study is language variation. This study used qualitative descriptive as approach and research design is an observation analysis. The source data were Ilu Na Maraburan movie script by Bonardo Sinaga taken from internet. This study based on Wardhaugh in all update theories. The research found that there were four types of language variations used in Ilu Na Maraburan movie by Bonardo Sinaga. From totally 41 sentences, idiolect is 9, dialecti is 13, chronolect is 8, and social dialect is 11. It shows that the movie mostly dominant used the Dialect with 13 the percentage (31,7%). (1) for the student of the English Department, this study can increase knowledge about language variations, especially for anyone who likes to watch movie. Understanding language variation is very important because there are many language variations contained in the movie. (2) For the lecturer who act as educators, this study will be useful to enrich their knowledge and added their knowledge about language variations and lecturer can teach language variation with the newest references. (3) For other researcher, this study is expected or even able to provide new refences when conducting research in different perspective.

Abstract

Vocabulary as the basic to speak with other people is very important. By having many vocabularies, people can communicate with other people fluently. Scramble game by using Quiziz application was used to increase student’s vocabulary achievement. The objective of this study was to find out the effect of scramble game by using Quiziz application on student’s vocabulary mastery at SMP Gajah Mada Medan.This study was carried out by Experimental quantitative research. The object of this study was the nine grade students at SMP Gajah Mada Medan. It consisted of 40 students which included two groups, the experimental and control group. Scramble game was used to teach the experimental group while conventional strategy was used to teach control group. The instrument of data collection was reorder the words, drag and drop vocabulary test with 20 items. The mean of the student’s scores for the pre-test in the experimental group was 62,555 and the mean of the the post-test in the experimental group was 80,2 while the mean for the pre-test in the control group was 61,45, and the mean for the post-test was 73,45. The calculation revealed that the reliability was 5,479. The T-test formula was used to analyze the data. The calculation revealed that t-observed (5,479) was greater than t-table (2,026) at the level of significance (a) 0,05 and with a degree of freedom (df) of 38. It means that Scramble Game by using Quiziz Application had a significant effect on students' vocabulary mastery. So Ha was accepted.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the effect of using quiz to increase students’ achievement in writing descriptive text at eight grade students. This research conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Beringin, Jalan Dusun II Kebun Sayur I, Sidodadi Ramunia, Kecamatan Beringin, Kabupaten Deli Serdang. The population of this research was the eight grade students of the academic year 2022/2023. The researcher used experimental quantitative research. The sources data in this research is the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Beringin. The total sample for this research is 40 students, which are 20 students (VIII-1) in experimental class and 20 students (VIII-2) in control class. Each group was given a pre-test and post-test. The collecting data was done through writing descriptive test. The result showed by t-test (t-observation) was also higher that t-table at the level of significant ? = 0,05. T-observation (2.12) > t-table (2.02). It means give quiz gave significantly affect into students writing skill in descriptive text.
