Abstract

This study is meant to describe the hedges used by the English, Mathematics, Science, Social and Education Management graduate students of State University of Semarang in writing their thesis abstracts, find out whether or not there is a difference in the use of hedges, and explain why they used hedges in the ways they do. It used a descriptive qualitative-quantitative approach and the data were taken from the thesis abstracts. The unit of analysis is lexical hedges analyzed based on the Salager-Meyer’s (1994) taxonomy as well as Hyland’ taxonomy (1998) and non-lexical hedges as suggested by Navratilova (2013). The results show that hedges both lexical and non-lexical hedges were used. There is a difference among these graduate students in using hedges. Those in English, Social and Education Management had the tendency to use more hedges than those in Mathematics and Science. This tendency of using more hedges by those in English might be influenced by their cultures. Meanwhile, the preferences of those in Social and Education Management in using more hedges are possibly caused by its nature in which these two programs are categorized as ‘soft sciences’ that are surely not very numerical.

Abstract

The number of hoax news, hate speeches, and acts of violence that are viral on social media can disrupt the physical, emotional and psychological development of children. This article mainly describes the role of spiritual approach in family parenting to children. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method. The research subject is lecturers at IAIN Kudus. In-depth interviews were conducted to explore and collect data. The result denotes that family parenting had impacts on character, emotional, psychology, and physical development of children. The spiritual approach can be implemented in family parenting through several ways including the habituation of positive values and characters, role models, commitment and consistency from parents, positive communication between parents and children. Besides, parents can support and get involved in children’s activities through positive ways such as approximation, approval, and positive expression of parents towards children. Through the spiritual approach, children will be able to develop optimally both in the intellectual aspect (IQ) and emotional aspects (EQ).

Abstract

There are some Indonesian local wisdom that have not been promoted yet. Consequently, some people will not access them due to less promotion. Hence, Indonesian should keep all of the local wisdoms in appropriate ways. One of the ways is by using promotion the local wisdom through youtube. This paper explores the promotion of Indonesian local wisdom through social media particularly YouTube and the values of local wisdom. It used a qualitative method. Data were primarily collected through documentation of eight videos created and uploaded into YouTube by the students in the department of Islamic broadcasting and communication from the fifth semester at state Islamic Institute of Kudus. The result reveals that social media have been beneficial for promoting the local wisdom especially in Central Java. Indeed, social media offers flexibility and mobility for people in uploading the videos of Indonesian local wisdom into YouTube, it offers an opportunity to expand the Indonesian local wisdom through widespread social networking around the world and fostering their innovation of making amazing videos and contents. The values of local wisdom include beliefs and religion, Indonesian local culture and traditions, local food promotion and business production, Indonesian architecture and heritage, nature and environment preservation.

Abstract

AbstractIn the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, students starting from Elementary education to higher education need to be enhanced by 4Cs skills including critical thinking abilities, creative thinking abilities, communicating abilities and collaborative abilities in order to face challenges and solve problems. Therefore, educators play an essential role in producing better future generations in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0. The purpose of this study is to explain the perceptions of the students in the department of Islamic elementary education (PGMI) at IAIN Kudus as the candidate of teachers regarding the importance of integrating higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in English learning through a project-based learning model, one of them by making video projects of teaching English in elementary school. This study employed a qualitative method with an approach to descriptive analysis. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with students and documentation. The results of the study showed that most students in the department of Islamic elementary education (PGMI) at IAIN Kudus agree that the project of making videos in teaching English at elementary schools can encourage them in learning English especially in speaking English. They feel more confident when teaching English after making a video project. Moreover, the project of making videos can promote their creative and critical thinking skills in learning English. AbstrakDi era revolusi industri 4.0, peserta didik dari jenjang pendidikan dasar sampai pendidikan tinggi perlu dibekali dengan 4Cs skills diantaranya kemampuan berpikir kritis (critical thinking), kemampuan berpikir kreatif (creative thinking), kemampuan berkomunikasi (communicating) dan kemampuan berkolaborasi (collaborating) agar mampu menghadapi tantangan dan menyelesaikan segala persoalan.Oleh karena itu, para pendidik memiliki peran penting dalam mencetak generasi unggul di era revolusi industry 4.0. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan tentang persepsi calon guru Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah yakni mahasiswa Program Studi PGMI di IAIN Kudus mengenai pentingnya mengintegrasikan higher order thinking skills (HOTS) dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris melalui model pembelajaran berbasis projek (project-based learning) salah satunya dengan membuat projek video mengajar bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan pada analisis deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi struktur kepada mahasiswa dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa Prodi PGMI berpendapat bahwa projek membuat video mengajar bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar dapat mendorong mereka dalam belajar bahasa Inggris khususnya dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris, mahasiswa merasa rasa percaya diri mereka menjadi semakin terlatih ketika mencoba mengajar di sekolah dasar setelah membuat projek video. Lebih dari itu, projek membuat video juga dapat mengasah kreatifitas dan kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kompetensi peagogik Guru sekolah Dasar di UPTD Pendidikan Banyumanik Kota Semarang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 162 guru Sekolah Dasar  yang dipilih dengan teknik random sampling. Intrumen yang digunakan penelitian ini lembar penilaian, Intrumen penelitian terdiri 50 item pernyataan, dan 10 indikator kompetensi peagogik Guru Sekolah Dasar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada indikator kemampuan guru menguasai karakteristik peserta didik adalah baik (81.8%), kemampuan guru menguasai teori belajar dan prinsip-prinsip pembelajaran yang mendidik adalah baik (77.1%), kemampuan guru mengembangkan kurikulum yang terkait dengan mata pelajaran/bidang pengembangan yang diampu adalah baik (82%), kemampuan guru menyelenggarakan pembelajaran yang mendidik adalah baik (85.2%), kemampuan guru memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi untuk kepentingan pembelajaran adalah baik (77.6%), kemampuan guru memfasilitasi pengembangan potensi peserta didik untuk mengaktualisasikan berbagai potensi yang dimiliki adalah baik (84.6%), Kemampuan guru berkomunikasi secara efektif, empatik, dan santun dengan peserta didik adalah baik (87.8%), Kemampuan guru menyelenggarakan penilaian  proses dan hasil belajar adalah baik (82.1%), kemampuan guru memanfaatkan hasil penilaian untuk kepentingan pembelajaran adalah baik (87%), Kemampuan guru melakukan tindakan reflektif untuk peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran adalah cukup baik (74.7%). Secara keseluruhan kompetensi pedagogik guru Sekolah Dasar di UPTD Pendidikan Banyumanik adalah baik (81,3%).

Abstract

This article discusses the right to education for persons with disabilities in accordance with the special report “The right to education of persons with disabilities” United Nations General Assembly Resolution 60/251 2007. Specifically, this article discusses the definition of persons with disabilities, the definitions and purposes of inclusive education, inclusive education in the Islamic perspective, inclusive education in Indonesia, the major determinants and sustainability of inclusive education, and the state’s obligation to education for persons with disabilities. In the perspective of Islam, there is a common ties or the intersection of inclusive education with Islamic teachings value that can be used as the basis of the importance of education for people including those with disabilities. The tangent point of which is education as a liability/rights, the principle of non-segregation, the holistic perspective of looking at learners and way of looking at the barriers that are more oriented to external factors, especially the school environment. This article recommends a series of policies and measures that need to be done by all parties, both government and society to realize the right to inclusive education include all parties, both the government, the community and the parents should actively participate and cooperate in implementing inclusive education in Indonesia and the government should aim to improve the quality of inclusive education in Indonesia, both in terms of students, teachers, facilities and infrastructure, teaching, learning and evaluation.

Abstract

The millennial era has been initially marked by the development of information technology. This article mainly explores the opportunities and challenges of digitizing hadith in the millennial era. This study belongs to a descriptive qualitative method. In-depth interviews with the Programmers of the Center for the study of Hadith in Jakarta, observation and documentation were conducted to gather data. The result reveals that digitizing the books of hadith provides an opportunity for everyone to access the books of hadith by downloading the hadith digitization application freely. Therefore, people can access the hadith books in both PDF and digital formats. On the contrary, it may lead to academic anxiety or challenges. This is because the hadith books in both PDF and digital formats can be deliberately changed by irresponsible people so that the authenticity of the information and the accuracy of the data will be questionable. Further, this tendency could be misused by certain people, by changing its contents and then disseminating it for the certain purposes.  Regarding this, one of the ways to overcome this is by maintaining its authenticity, updating the content, and adding the copyright to the data source reference using the source check method.

Abstract

This article explores the urgency of giving the character education to children at an early age. Nowadays, the values of character among teenagers have been lost. The prominent evidence of losing the character values is rampant violence and clashes among students. The problems that led to the decline of the character of children are the crisis of religious values (spirituality), cultural nobility crisis due to a globalization, and the crisis of model from parents and teachers. Therefore, the character education should be applied to children at an early age because early childhood is the golden age that will determine children’s development in the future whether physical, mental, character and intelligence. One of the ways to educate children is through the model approach of families and parents. In addition, teachers also play an important role in educating character to children. This is achieved through teachers’ model like honest, high integrity, discipline and so on. Another way is by singing kids song in the learning process. Singing is an activity that cannot be separated from the life of early childhood. Therefore, teaching and giving character values to children is more effective and easily accepted through singing. Moreover, values or moral of the song will be remembered by the children in a longer time.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang pentingnya meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris anak usia dini melalui kreasi dan modifikasi lagu-lagu anak berbahasa Inggris (nursery ryhmes) dan kendala dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan pada analisis deskriptif. Untuk mengumpulkan data, penulis menggunakan penelitian lapangan berupa wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi.Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kreasi lagu-lagu anak berbahasa Inggris sangat berguna sebagai media untuk mengenalkan bahasa Inggris pada anak-anak usia dini di Kelompok Bermain (KB) dan Taman Kanak-Kanak (TK) di Kudus. Dengan menyanyikan lagu-lagu anak berbahasa Inggris, anak-anak merasa lebih tertarik dan semangat dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Mereka merasa lebih santai karena belajar kosa kata bahasa Inggris sambil bernyanyi, mereka tidak merasa tertekan (stress) pada saat pembelajaran di kelas. Melalui bernyanyi, perkembangan anak dapat terstimulasi dengan maksimal seperti fisik-motorik, sosial, emosional, dan intelektual. Adapun kendala-kendala selama pembelajaran meliputi terbatasnya daya perhatian dan konsentrasi anak terhadap guru ketika mengajar bahasa Inggris, terbatasnya wawasan dan pengetahuan yang luas dari guru-guru di KB dan TK tentang pengajaran bahasa Inggris, terbatasnya sarana penunjang dan fasilitas dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This paper explores the concepts, opportunities and challenges of female students leadership in STEC (STAIN English Club), STAIN Kudus. A qualitative study is conducted in this study. In order to gather data, in-depth interview and observation are conducted. The participants of interview are the head of STEC, the team and the members of STEC. The finding shows that the female leadership in STEC has not run well. Besides, there is a stereotype of negative judgment embedded to female leader. Therefore, this becomes a challenge for a female leader of STEC. In order to optimize the quality and performance leadership, the need of preparing qualified leaders is considerably crucial to improve STEC development. These include developing self-awareness among the leaders, the team and the members of STEC, creating a clear vision of the organization of STEC for future, developing strategic goals and innovative programs, developing cooperation and networking with other institutions
