Abstract

English is an international language currently used in various ways, including communication. Therefore, English needs to be developed from an early age to improve the ability to interact orally by giving and asking for information according to the basic competence of the subject. This study aims to determine how the Reading Aloud strategy is implemented and what aspects increase when the strategy is applied as a learning method to improve the ability to interact orally in class VIII MTs Darul Falah. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants used were 33 class VIII students of MTs Darul Falah. Sources of data and information for this research are English teachers and students. Data collection instruments were in the form of observation checklists, field notes, and interviews. Data analysis consists of data reduction, conclusion drawing, and verification. Based on the results of research and discussion, the Reading Aloud method can improve students' ability to interact orally to give and ask for information. The aspects that improved when the Reading Aloud method was implemented in class VIII students of MTs Darul Falah were 1) knowledge aspects consisting of vocabulary, fluency, accuracy and intonation; 2) attitude aspect consisting of respect, caring and self-confidence; 3) behavioral aspects consisting of working together and communicating.

Abstract

This research aims to overcome learning loss in high school students in a post-pandemic situation by applying the jigsaw technique in teaching narrative texts. This research was conducted at Mekar Arum High School in class 10 MIPA 1 with 28 participants. This research uses a qualitative method with a Classroom Action research approach. Data collection techniques in this research used three instruments: observation, interviews, and the field. Based on the results of research conducted by researchers, it can be concluded that the application of the jigsaw technique carried out by the teacher runs smoothly. According to the procedure, then in the application of the jigsaw technique students can follow the teacher's directions well, students have also participated in the discussion process with maximum mutual cooperation and maximally fulfilling the responsibilities requested by the teacher, the interaction of students with their group mates has also started to be well established as well as interactions with the teacher, students have also been able to show the results of their discussions with confidence and when the teacher asks some questions all students can answer questions from teachers quickly, responsively, and correctly. Then, some of the consequences of learning loss that occur in students by applying the jigsaw technique in learning narrative text can overcome the problems of learning loss that occur in students.

Abstract

According to Melian O.H & Solihat M.R (2019), speaking is an essential skill in English, where speakers can express ideas, opinions, responses, and information. Problems that arise in learning to speak during a pandemic. These problems include more time for students to practice speaking, lack of communication, and lack of cooperation between other students. This study uses a qualitative method. The approach used is classroom action research. To collect data, researchers used observation, field notes, and interviews. This research was conducted in two stages, namely, cycle one and cycle two. This research was conducted at Mekar Arum High School. The research participants were students of class XI IPS-2, totalling 31 students. Based on the research results, researchers can conclude that implementing the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) can be used as one of the methods of learning speaking skills. This can be proven by findings that show the development of students' speaking activities. Based on research on students' opinions about the application of STAD, students like this learning method. Students gave positive answers and said that the presentation activities in this learning method gave them public speaking training and trained their confidence in public speaking.
