Abstract

Religius life Harmony is an ideal concept for multicultural societies to living together and work together. At the 2018, during Governor election for West Kalimantan, the identity politics were very strong in the multicultural society in Sintang Regency. The identity politics which spreads can disrupt the harmony that has existed in a multicultural society in Sintang District. This paper aims to explain the harmony that already exists and is maintained in a multicultural society even though identity politics is getting thicker in society. The approach used in this paper is a qualitative approach using the case study method. Collection techniques using observation, interviews and documentation studies. The data analysis used are data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that there is a link between the results of the 2018 Pilkada votes and the religious similarity factor in Sintang District, harmony in a multicultural society is maintained in the form of cooperation, mutual help and gathering activities. The background factors for maintaining harmony in a multicultural society are the existence of the principle of mutual benefit, familiarity between community groups and the role of ethnic organizations. The Conclusion of this study is that identity politics is normally, however shouldnot be used as the main strategy in public sphere. So event of Governor Election didn’t create disruption in religous life That way, the harmony that has been established will not be disturbed by political strategy based on identity.
