Abstract

In early research, gypsum’s product from Padalarang and Tasikmalaya had been compared and it is found that Tasikmalaya gypsum was better. In these research, it’s used gypsum product from Tasikmalaya with wet calcination method using autoclave. This research consisted of four samples divided into three control groups and one treatment group. Research’s sample consisted of 45 units and 15 units data from the last research. To compared physical and mechanical properties, every samples was tested in three treatments. Research results showed that the average setting time, setting expansion and compressive strength of wet calcination gypsum product are respectively 487.6 seconds, 0.492%, and 12.708 Mpa. The results were statistically analyzed with MANOVA and Tukey test. The analysis showed differences in physical and mechanical properties between self made gypsum product from Tasikmalaya with Padalarang’s and two marketed gypsum products. Setting time self made gypsum product meets the ISO for type III, while compressive strength and setting expansion were not. But gypsum’s production from Tasikmalaya done by wet calcinations had better physical and mechanical properties, so it can be used in dentistry.

Abstract

Dimensional stability of alginate impression is very important for treatment in dentistry. This study was to find the effect of the beetle juice spray procedure on alginate impression on gypsum model linear dimensional changes. This experimental study used 25 samples, divided into 5 groups. The first group, as control, were the alginate impressions filled with dental stone immediately after forming. The other four groups were the alginate impressions gel spray each 1,2,3, and 4 times with 35% beetle juice and then filled with dental stone. Dimensional changes were measured in the lower part of the plaster model from buccal-lingual and mesial-distal direction and also measured in the outer distance between the upper part of the stone model by using Mitutoyo digital micrometre and profile projector scaled 0,001 mm. The results of mesial-distal diameter average of the control group and group 2,3,4, and 5 were 9.909 mm, 9.852 mm, 9.845 mm, 9.824 mm, and 9.754 mm. Meanwhile, the results of buccal-lingual diameter average were 9.847 mm, 9.841 mm, 9.826 mm, 9.776 mm, and 9.729 mm. The results of the outer distance between the upper part of the stone model were 31.739 mm, 31.689 mm, 31.682 mm, 31.670 mm, and 31.670 mm. The data of this study was evaluated statistically based on the variant analysis. The conclusion of this study was statistically, there was no significant effect on gypsum model linear dimensional changes obtained from alginate impressions sprayed with 35% beetle juice.

Abstract

Introduction: Nanocomposite has been developed as a dental restoration. Nano-scale filler can result in high mechanical properties and good esthetic. Nanofiller materials such as partially stabilised zirconia (PSZ) has been recommended for dental use. This form of zirconia can be stabilised by the addition of several different oxides such as magnesia and calcia. Chitosan as a coupling agent was able to increase the nanocomposite’s mechanical properties. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the nanocomposite’s hardness value with and without the addition of chitosan as a coupling agent as well as a different stabiliser of zirconia filler. Methods: Procedures of this research consisted of several stages which were the fabrication of nanocomposite and mechanical properties measurement using the Vicker’s hardness testing. Results: The nanocomposite’s hardness value (kg/mm2) with zirconia filler stabilised by MgO without the addition of chitosan was as much as 5.09 and with the addition of chitosan was 7.51; the nanocomposite ’s hardness number with zirconia filler stabilised by  CaO without the addition of chitosan was 8.16 and with the addition of chitosan was 13.13.  The results were then analysed statistically using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test and showed a significant difference between all of those data groups. Conclusion: The addition of chitosan as well as different stabiliser (MgO and CaO) of Zirconia filler had affected the nanocomposite ’s hardness value.
