Abstract

Letter to the Hebrews is one of the most difficult and, at the same time, intriguing writings in the New Testament. Its author is responding to a particular crisis of the christian community. His theology is based on the basic christian teachings but then is developed as a response to the congregation’s need. One of his original ideas is the high priestly of Christ. It is significant because Jesus did not come from the line of the High Priests of Israel. This paper intends to understand why the author of Hebrews presents Jesus Christ as a High Priest according to Melchizedek and to see the significance of this Christology in responding to the current crisis.

Abstract

The disciples of Jesus are called to be salt and light of the world (Mat. 5:13-16). Unfortunately, it is not always easy to fulfill this vocation, because on several occasions, their energy seems to run out due to the division between them. In such a situation, Jesus’ prayer (John 17) reminds them of the importance of the unity. The prayer that appears at the end of the farewell discourse shows that the true source of the disciples' unity comes from God himself; unity cultivated in a worldly way is often very fragile. Even so, the disciples still had a duty to prove in living together that true unity. This vocation has a missionary impact, for only then will everyone see that God really lives among his people. That is what drives the Catholic Church today to build ecumenical dialogue.

Abstract

Paul’s mission of proclaiming the Gospel of Christ led to the establishment of branches of the Church in areas far removed from Jerusalem. Despite facing many difficulties, including being arrested, Paul persisted in his mission with faith in Jesus Christ and tireless effort. His radical change from being a persecutor of Christ's to being a herald of Christ was astounding. One may wonder what the impetus of his joy was. The key event was the appearance of the resurrected Christ on the road to Damascus. This happening has changed him from the outside and convinced him of who Jesus Christ really was. Thanks to that incident he had a new outlook on his life as well. Christ became everything. Therefore, while in prison and awaiting the outcome of the trial, to the Philippians, he said firmly that for him to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Abstract

The deity of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, has been being the object of contemplation for the faithful since the beginning of Christianity. One of the reflected points is the pre-existence of the Son of God. The Church Fathers, especially around the Council of Nicaea, tussled a lot with this issue. They used philosophical terms which were quite complicated in their time. Strangely, long before that, Paul as a radical monotheist, who later became a follower of Christ, seemed to speak about the pre-existence of this Son effortlessly. This fact is interesting to be observed. Therefore, this article is intended to discuss Paul's views regarding the divinity of Jesus Christ.

Abstract

This article is entitled "History, Structure and Theology of the Third Eucharistic Prayer for the 2020 Eucharistic Celebration: Pastoral Vision Management and Leadership." This article aims to provide a deeper understanding of the development, structure and theological significance of the third Eucharistic Prayer in the 2020 Eucharistic Celebration. This paper focuses on selecting the Third Eucharistic Prayer as the main study, based on the idea of the Liturgy as the source and pinnacle of Church life as described in the Sacrosanctum Concilium (SC) n. 10. Liturgy is not only a formal ritual of worship, but also the core of the identity and mission of the Catholic Church which drives and gives meaning to all ecclesiastical activities. Thus, this paper tries to explain the inspirations originating from liturgical texts, especially DSA III, which can be applied in the pastoral work of the Catholic Church. This paper aims to create bridge between liturgical theology and its application in a concrete pastoral context. By exploring the meaning of DSA III, we can find inspiration that can help direct the Vision Management and Pastoral Leadership of the Catholic Church. Indeed, the inspiration for the Vision Management and Pastoral Leadership of the Catholic Church can be found in various sources, including the Holy Bible and the teachings of the Church Fathers, but this paper is a simple effort that tries to highlight the potential contained in DSA III, a prayer that is very often used in celebration of the Eucharist on Sunday by the faithful. In this research it was found that DSA III contains some key values that can be applied in management and pastoral leadership within a parish. Thus, DSA is also a series of prayers which are intended to be prayed and absorbed together by the priest and the congregation. More than that, DSA is not limited to a series of prayers that stop at the Eucharistic liturgy. DSA is also lived out in daily activities, especially when people gather together at church to be involved in church services.

Abstract

Living in one of the main economic centres in Indonesia, the Catholic Church of Surabaya (Surabaya Diocese) has to face all sorts of secularization. This situation has forced the diocese to redefine its role in this secularized society. The authors highlight four main concerns as the background of the discussion, i.e. (1) the globalized urban culture, (2) the role as economic centre for East Indonesia, (3) the religious diversity and (4) the crisis of identity of Catholic education. This situation leads to a major step of renewing the diocese mission strategy. While acknowledging the main stream of the mission the global church as a basis, the authors suggest two things. The first is to renew internal resources and to strengthen the internal communion. The second is to open up the church to the society by being involved in social struggle, such as promoting dialogue between religions, promoting process of inculturation, advocating the poor and the marginalized people and actively participating in social communication.
