Abstract

In the Chinese language teaching in Indonesia, course books become one of the most prominent problems. Most of the Chinese educational institutions in Indonesia are still using Chinese course books published by China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. It is known that there are no course books that are absolutely perfect and suitable to be used by all language learners. These circumstances lead to the selection of course books which has become a complex task. The selection ofcourse books is connected with the course books evaluation, both internal and external. Good or bad quality of course books has impacts and influences to the entire teaching process .In addition, the selection of course books needs to pay attention to many aspects. Course books must be able to meetthe Indonesian social needs of the Chinese language in accordance with the educational institution’s purpose of Chinese language learning, the characteristics of learners’ age as well as learning language, and also their Chinese language proficiency level.This paper specifically describes how to improve the quality of learning, while creativity is required in selecting Chinese language course books for elementary level adult learners in Indonesia.Keywords: quality of learning, creativity, the selection of course book, elementary Chinese, Indonesian adults

Abstract

Saat ini semakin dibutuhkan materi ajar yang baik untuk pemelajar Bahasa Mandarin di Indonesia. Mengingat pentingnya peran materi ajar dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Mandarin di Indonesia, instansi pendidikan dan pengajar perlu melakukan penilaian yang cermat supaya mendapatkan materi ajar yang paling sesuai dengan kebutuhan lokal dan pemelajar. Penulis menyadari pentingnya penelitian dan evaluasi terhadap materi ajar Bahasa Mandarin tingkat SMA di Kota Bandung. Penulis menggunakan metode kuantitatif untuk mengukur hasil evaluasi  pimpinan instansi pendidikan dan pengajar Bahasa Mandarin tingkat SMA di Kota Bandung yang diperoleh melalui kuesioner. Sedangkan metode kualitatif digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis materi ajar yang umum digunakan untuk pelajaran Bahasa Mandarin tingkat SMA di Kota Bandung, menganalisis permasalahan, penyebab, dan solusi untuk materi ajar pelajaran Bahasa Mandarin tingkat SMA di Kota Bandung berdasarkan tinjauan pustaka. Hasil evaluasi dan solusi dalam penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan referensi untuk arah pengembangan materi ajar Bahasa Mandarin tingkat SMA di Kota Bandung.

Abstract

China’s increasing investment in Indonesia has resulted in higher demand of professional that is fluent in Chinese for business purposes. This research aims to analyze the needs of stakeholder and learners on Chinese for business purposes, and to evaluate whether this needs have been answered by curriculum implementation in higher education level. The writer analyzes the needs of stakeholder and learners by using quantitative qualitative method, evaluates teaching methods and learning materials used in X University in West Java, and compare the analysis of stakeholder and learners’ needs to the evaluation of learning materials and teaching method implemented in X University in West Java. This research aims to provide reference of stakeholder and learners’ needs on Chinese for business purposes, and thus provide basis for the design of Chinese for business purposes curriculum in Indonesia.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas pengaruh kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Hokkien terhadap penguasaan bahasa Mandarin lisan mahasiswa sebuah sekolah tinggi di Kota Medan. Mahasiswa sekolah tinggi yang menjadi responden dalam penelitian ini merupakan pemelajar bahasa Mandarin yang bahasa ibunya adalah bahasa Hokkien. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menganalisis data yang dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner terbuka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa muncul bahasa antara dalam proses mereka mempelajari bahasa Mandarin. Kemampuan bahasa Hokkien di satu sisi membawa pengaruh positif, di sisi yang lain juga membawa pengaruh negatif terhadap penguasaan bahasa Mandarin. Dengan keeratan hubungan kekerabatan antara dua bahasa, bahasa Hokkien membawa pengaruh positif terhadap penguasaan kosakata, tata bahasa, dan fonetik bahasa Mandarin. Selain itu, ditemukan bahwa pengaruh negatif yang terjadi disebabkan oleh beberapa perbedaan sistem kebahasaan dari bahasa Mandarin (B2) dan bahasa Hokkien (B1). Peneliti berharap temuan dan saran dari penelitian ini dapat membantu pemelajar bahasa Mandarin memanfaatkan pengaruh positif kemampuan bahasa Hokkien dalam meningkatkan efektivitas terhadap penguasaan bahasa Mandarin, juga membantu pemelajar meminimalkan pengaruh negatif yang disebabkan oleh kemampuan bahasa Hokkien terhadap penguasaan bahasa Mandarin.

Abstract

Mandarin is the second most widely used foreign language in the world. Teaching Mandarin needs appropriate teaching methods and media to achieve learning objectives. Researchers researched the learning of Mandarin conversation in one of the private universities of Bandung to analyze the influence of teaching methods applied and teaching media used during online learning. The research involved a descriptive analysis method with a qualitative approach. Data collection was done by filling out questionnaires and interviews to determine the alignment of teaching methods and teaching media used and the influence of teaching methods and media on online learning of Mandarin conversation in that university. The results showed that learning Mandarin conversation online using three learning methods (audio-lingual, communicative approach, and task-based methods) and online teaching media Zoom Meeting, YouTube, Morning, and WhatsApp was perceived as effective. It could improve university students’ Mandarin conversation skills.

Abstract

The increased collaboration between Indonesia and China in various fields should be supported by sound and effective communication between the two parties. This partnership strongly affects the demand on Indonesian-Chinese translator and/or interpreter. The demand on interpreters are increasing rapidly, ranges from various sectors. However, Chinese language programs available in Indonesia these days are still at the undergraduate levels. Together with the increasing demand on interpreter, various Chinese language study programs are providing translation and/or interpreting courses to equip their students for future job market. As most of the Chinese language students in Indonesia begin to learn Chinese as a foreign language when they are at the university, teaching interpreting at the undergraduate level is certainly challenging compared to teaching interpreting at the postgraduate level. The writers therefore conducts a Needs Analysis on students to find out what are the needs and challenges faced by undergraduate level interpreting trainees, and what kind of curriculum design would suit the undergraduate level interpreting training. This study found that the biggest challenges for the trainees were nervousness during interpreting assignment, difficulty in delivering speech in L2 and L1, and difficulty in understanding L2 input. This study also shows that L2 correlation with trainees’ interpreting performance. The trainees in this study perceive that their foreign language skills affect their performance. Based on the Needs Analysis conducted in this study, the writers also provide suggestions for interpreting course design at the undergraduate level by putting into consideration the number and the linguistic background of students.

Abstract

Discourse is the highest language unit above the clause and has sentences which are interrelated and related both semantically and contextually. The correlation in discourse can be divided into two types, the relevance of form or cohesion and the relevance of meaning or coherence. Through this research, the author will conduct a discourse analysis on the lyrics of Mandarin songs by Joker Xue (薛之谦), the objects of this research are based of Joker Xue’s(薛之谦) love-relationship songs which has a similar theme. Some songs which were taken as objects for this research are《认真的雪》 、《你还要我怎样》 、《深深的爱过你》 今生版 , and 《演员》. Through this research, the author will analyze the correlation between cohesion and coherence in the lyrics of the songs by Joker Xue (薛之谦) which affects the writing style. The focus of this research is grammatical cohesion, lexical cohesion, and coherence.

Abstract

This research discussed the comparison of the words zǒngsuàn 总算, suànshì 算是, zhōngyú 终于, jiéguǒ 结果 in Chinese language and their equivalent words in Indonesian language. These four words are the words which show the time description of an event. The writer chose to analyze there four words because of the semantic similarity of the four words. Three of the words have the same meaning and one other word has a similar meaning. In addition, Pleco digital dictionary app translates the four words into 'finally', which means ‘akhirnya’ in Indonesian language (KBBI, 2016) and classifies them all in the same class of words, the adverbs. This research used descriptive qualitative method and literature study data collection techniques. The results showed that the four words have sameness in grammatical location, channel of communication, final result, and word equivalency. Furthermore, it was also found that these four words have several differences in terms of word class, grammatical location, channel of communication, process, final result, and word equivalency.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the world has affected the world of education diverting offline learning activities into online learning activities. The diversion to online learning over the last two years certainly needs to be evaluated. This research compares and analyzes both offline and online learning in four aspects of Chinese language conducted at a private university in West Java. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of offline and online learning in four aspects of Chinese language (listening, speaking, reading, writing) organized by the university. This research uses quantitative comparative method to analyze the data obtained through observation and questionnaires. According to the comparative analysis that has been done, in general terms, students feel that online learning is easier than offline learning. If we observe at each of the aspects, the majority students’ mastery of listening and speaking skills has decreased during online learning. Listening and speaking aspects are maximized when applied in offline learning. However, the majority of students’ mastery of reading and writing skills has increased during online learning. Reading and writing skills can continue to be as effective as offline learning even when applied in online learning. Keywords : Chinese language, four aspects of language, online learning, offline learning.   Abstrak Pandemi Covid-19 yang melanda dunia telah mengakibatkan dunia pendidikan melakukan pengalihan kegiatan pembelajaran luring menjadi pembelajaran daring. Pengalihan menjadi pembelajaran daring selama sekitar dua tahun terakhir ini tentunya perlu dievaluasi. Penelitian ini membandingkan dan menganalisis pembelajaran luring dan daring pada perkuliahan empat keterampilan berbahasa Mandarin yang dijalankan di sebuah universitas swasta di Jawa Barat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis efektivitas pembelajaran luring dan daring dalam pembelajaran keterampilan menyimak, berbicara, membaca, dan menulis bahasa Mandarin yang diselenggarakan oleh universitas tersebut.  Penelitian ini menggunakan metode komparatif kuantitatif untuk menganalisis data yang didapatkan melalui observasi dan penyebaran angket. Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan teori prinsip pembelajaran masing-masing keterampilan bahasa Mandarin. Berdasarkan analisis perbandingan yang telah dilakukan, jika ditinjau pada masing-masing keterampilan bahasa, penguasaan mayoritas pemelajar akan keterampilan menyimak dan berbicara mengalami penurunan saat pembelajaran daring karena kekurangan lingkungan bahasa atau lawan bicara untuk latihan berkomunikasi lisan. Pembelajaran keterampilan menyimak dan berbicara lebih maksimal saat diterapkan secara luring. Namun, penguasaan mayoritas pemelajar akan keterampilan membaca dan menulis mengalami peningkatan saat pembelajaran daring. Keterampilan membaca dan menulis dapat dilatih di mana pun dan kapan pun, sehingga pembelajaran daring keterampilan membaca dan menulis dapat tetap berjalan efektif seperti saat pembelajaran luring. Kata kunci: Bahasa Mandarin, empat keterampilan berbahasa, pembelajaran daring, pembelajaran luring.

Abstract

Kalimat merupakan satuan bahasa terkecil yang dapat berdiri sendiri menyatakan pikiran seseorang. Kalimat perintah merupakan kalimat yang mengandung perintah untuk seseorang melakukan suatu hal yang diinginkan oleh pembicara, terdiri dari kalimat perintah biasa, permintaan, izin, ajakan, saran, dan larangan. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti melakukan analisis terhadap kalimat perintah Bahasa Mandarin yang muncul sangat banyak pada acara ragam 《放开我北鼻 第三季》“Let Go of My Baby Season 3” pada aplikasi WeTV. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganalisis ciri gramatikal berbagai jenis kalimat perintah Bahasa Mandarin dan teknik penerjemahannya ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Dalam analisis ini peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan oleh peneliti yaitu teknik simak catat dari subtitle acara ragam tersebut. Peneliti telah melakukan analisis struktur gramtikal terhadap data kalimat perintah yang terkumpul untuk menemukan ciri-ciri gramatikal dari setiap jenis kalimat perintah. Berdasarkan data penerjemahan ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia pada subtitle dan ciri gramatikal yang ditemukan, peneliti telah mengidentifikasi metode semantis dan harafiah yang lazim digunakan untuk menerjemahkan berbagai jenis kalimat perintah Bahasa Mandarin.
