Abstract

This study aims to: 1) determine the characteristics of pedicab drivers in Solo, 2) find out the economic adaptation strategies undertaken by pedicab drivers in Solo. The data processed in this study are primary data obtained by the author through the distribution of questionnaires, interviews and direct observations of respondents pedicab drivers in Solo. The analysis technique used is univariate analysis, bivariate analysis and descriptive analysis. The results showed that: 1) the characteristics of age, level of education and address of respondents had a statistically significant effect on the decision of the respondents to have a side jobs, while the characteristics of the number of dependents and average income per month had an insignificant effect on the decision of the respondents to have a side jobs, 2) the economic adaptation strategies that is done by pedicab drivers in Solo is by having a part-time job beside pulling a pedicabs, besides that they make savings and there are family members who are already working who can help meet their daily needs. Keywords: Modernization; Pedicab; Economic Adaptation Strategy
