Abstract

Literary works is an imitation of the reality of human life is represented in Calabai by Pepi Al-Bayqunie. This novel takes the setting of Buginese community lifein South Sulawesi. This research discusses the queer performativity in novel Calabai through queer theory from Judith Butler. According to Butler, performativity is a natural condition for man in displaying his (physical) body. Discussion about sex, gender, and sexual orientation is a social construct that can be fluid, unnatural, and unstable. Performativity queer in Calabai's narratives is characterized as a natural appearance and repeatedly displayed by the characters of the story considered queer, calabai and bissu. Bissu was constructed by culture as gender "not gender" in its social environment. Through its narratives, Buginese society owns and recognizes the existence bissu as the fifth genderin their culture. Its narratives reveal the natural appearance of bissu which has been repeated over the discursive society for so long that bissu was constructed in Buginese culture as a gender queer.

Abstract

Some folktales can be studied through an ecological approach. Based on that reason, the problem discussed in this study is the structure and ecological reality of Hubula in the folklore of the Hubula through ecological approach. The purpose of this research is to explain the structure of the Hubula folklore based on the theory of literary structures and to describe the ecological reality in the folklore of the Hubula tribe through the literary ecological approach. The benefits of this research include practical benefits and scientific (theoretical) benefits. This study uses two theories, namely literary structuralism theory and literary ecological approach. This research is qualitative. The method used in this research is the method of collecting data through field studies; data processing methods through careful reading, identification, and data selection; and data analysis methods through a literary ecological perspective. This research found that the formal structure of the Hubula folklore generally has few characters in the story, the theme of the story is simple, the plot is forward, the setting is in the open, and a single third person perspective. Apart from that, ecological reality is also found in the folklore of Hubula in Jayawijaya Regency. This ecological reality can be seen from the background of the place (the environment) which is still well preserved, the ecology of the forest which is still green and sustainable becomes an ecosystem for other living things besides humans, and there are water sources that are still abundant and clear for the survival of the Hubula.

Abstract

Sonnet 73 by William Shakespeare is an interesting sonnet to discuss. The most basic reason for studying this sonnet is because it reveals the phenomenon of death as part of human existence. In addition, to the researcher's knowledge, the phenomenon of human death in this sonnet has never been studied from an existential perspective. The phenomenon of death contained in this sonnet will be discussed through an existential perspective so that it will bring up interpretations and analysis results of this poem in various perspectives. Sartre (2002:73) in his existentialist view argues that there is no reality, except in action. Man is nothing but what his life reveals. The concept of death understood in existentialism is the death of human existence. The death of this existence can also mean the human condition when he is in a state of despair, anxiety arises, and has a sense of nothingness.
