Abstract

Floating net is a fishing gear that is classified into the lift nets group. In addition to the light power factor, the moon phase factor is believed to affect the fish's response. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the phases of the moon on catches and the productivity of floating nets, as well as ti determine the composition of the species of fish caught according to the phases of the moon.  This research was conducted from May to June 2022 in Sampolawa waters, South Buton. This study used a survey method on the catches of the floating lift nets during 27 trips. Observations were made on the first light, early dark, and dark moon phases. The results of the study found that the total catch in the early bright moon phase was 2,659 individuals, the early dark moon phase was 2,312 individuals and the dark moon phase was 694 individuals. There were 14 species of fish caught in all phases of the month of observation, where three (3) species of fish were dominant in each phase of the month, namely anchovies (Stolephorus sp), then bigeye scad (Selar crumenophthalmus) and sardine (Sardinella Sp). The moon phase has a significant effect on the number of individuals caught, whereas the early bright moon phase is the moon phase that has the highest productivity (5.5 kg/trip).

Abstract

Guilding barrier is a type of fishing gear that is fixed and passive, which in collecting fish is very dependent on the tides. Based on this, this research was conducted to know: 1) the number of catches of sero; 2) species composition and fish size composition; and 3) sero fishery productivity based on the moon phase. The research was conducted in April-June 2022 in Tapulaga Waters, Soropia District, Konawe. Sampling was carried out in 4 lunar phases including the new moon phase, the first quarter moon, the bright moon, and the second quarter moon. Found 357 individuals caught consisting of 21 species of fish. The highest species composition was found in the second quarter with 129 individuals (36.13%), and the lowest in the quarter with 54 individuals (15.12%). The three (3) dominant fish species are squid (Loligo sp), rabbitfish  (Siganus canaliculatus), and giant trevally (Caranx ignobilis). The caught squid (Loligo sp.) occupy all size ranges from the smallest (10.3-15.4 cmTL) to the largest (46.6-51.8 cmTL) in each lunar phase, except for the new moon phase. Caranxignobilis ranges from 13.3-38.1 cmTL, with the highest size composition at 16.9-20.5 cmTL in the first quarter moon phase. Siganus canaliculatus caught at sizes 3.3-19.8 cmTL had the highest catches at sizes 3.3-4.4, namely the new moon, full moon, and second quarter moon phases. The lunar phase has a significant effect on the number of individuals caught where the new moon phase and the second quarter lunar phase have the highest productivity, namely an average of  3 kg.

Abstract

Floating lift net is a fishing gear that is classified into the lift net group. The main parts of the floating liftnet are the net, the liftnet house, and the lights as attractor . In addition to the strength of the light, it is believed that the color of the light will affect the fish's response considering that the visual abilities of each type of fish are different. Based on this, this research was conducted to know: 1) the number of catches using different underwater light colors; 2) the effectiveness of each color of light on the catch. The research was conducted from May to June 2022 in Lande Bay, Gerak Makmur Village, South Buton. The research was carried out using experimental fishing methods by conducting 15 attempts of catching alternately on 2 underwater light colors (yellow and blue). The results showed that the total catch for the yellow lights was 66.808 kg (72%) and the blue ones were 25.650 kg (28%). There were 10 species of fish caught consisting of 10 species caught on yellow lights and 9 species caught on blue lights. The three types of fish that were dominant in the 2 colors of the lights were anchovies (Stolephorus Sp), sardinella (Sardinella Sp), bigeye scad (Selar crumenophthalmus). Based on the proportion of total weight, it shows that the yellow dye is more effective (72%), compared to the blue dye (28%).
