Abstract

The "Lapak Baca" Program, initiated by the Students of the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Tematik - KKN-T) at the State University of Makassar, aims to enhance reading interest and literacy among elementary school students in the Takkalasi Village, Balusu District, Barru Regency. Amid the education revolution 4.0, where technology plays a prominent role, boosting reading interest, especially among elementary school students, becomes increasingly crucial. Despite the government's encouragement of the School Literacy Movement (Gerakan Literasi Sekolah - GLS), some children still encounter difficulties in reading. This program employs small-group-based teaching methods and actively involves the local community. Over a series of 23 meetings, the program successfully transformed the reading interest of students who previously struggled, enabling them to recognize letters, read more fluently, and comprehend the use of punctuation. The program's success underscores the importance of making books accessible to children, particularly in communities with limited access to literacy resources. Strong collaboration with schools, parents, and the local community has proven to be a primary success factor. The program also underscores the significance of ensuring easy access to diverse age-appropriate reading materials and organizing engaging and interactive activities to foster reading interest. Involving parents as partners in enhancing children's literacy has also proven effective. Despite financial constraints, efforts to raise funds from various sources, including local sponsors, have been a successful solution. The "Lapak Baca" Program provides hope for improving education and literacy in various regions facing similar challenges. With determination, collaboration, and a holistic approach, this program has the potential to create a positive impact on enhancing reading interest and literacy among children.
