Abstract

The community in Kutarayat Village has been the victim of the eruption of Mount Sinabung for years, from the first eruption that occurred in 2010 until 2021. During this vulnerable period, the people of Kutarayat Village had to evacuate several times. The majority of the community's livelihoods are as farmers, making it a significant challenge for those affected by the eruption of Mount Sinabung. Therefore, this research aims to understand how farmers perceive the eruption of Mount Sinabung, as well as the socio-economic efforts they have made after the cruption, and to identify the resilience patterns that have emerged post-eruption. The research method used in this study is qualitative and conducted in Kutarayat Village, Naman Teran District, Karo Regency. Data collection techniques include observation and in-depth interviews with informants. The results of the study found that, generally, farmers perceive the eruption of Mount Sinabung from two perspectives: positive and negative. The economic resilience efforts made by farmers include meeting family needs while evacuating, cleaning, and repairing agricultural land post-eruption, ensuring water supply for agriculture, and utilizing volcanic mud. There are three patterns of economic resilience among farmers in Kutarayat Village: first, economic resilience pattern with the same livelihood, second, economic resilience pattern by adding or changing the main livelihood, and third, economic resilience pattern by renting agricultural land in other villages.

Abstract

Abstract: Self-image is something that is often formed by everyone in communicating and interacting. The self-image formed in everyday life by each individual is often done consciously or unconsciously. But often the development of technology today, the formation of self-image can also take place through social media, especially on social media Instagram.Through the formation of virtual self-image, one can control, regulate and direct the views of other individuals towards it. This researcher aims to know and understand how the research subjects use the Instagram platform as a medium to form a virtual self-image, know the strategies of the research subjects in shaping virtual self-image, and find out how the life of the front stage and back stage of the research subjects in building virtual self-image. The subject of this study is a Student of Economic Education at HKBP Nomensen University.The metedeology used in this study is a qualitative research method with dramaturgical theory. The results found in this study are that the front stage life of the research subject is used as a forum to build a virtual self-image and the back stage as a place for itself. In this study, we can find out how the research subjects used Instagram as a medium to shape virtual self-image and how the strategies made by the research subjects in building virtual self-image. Abstrak Platform Instagram menjadi alat populer bagi individu, termasuk mahasiswa, dalam membangun citra diri virtual. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji peran Instagram sebagai media pembentuk citra diri virtual pada mahasiswa Pendidikan Ekonomi Universitas HKBP Nommensen dengan teori dramaturgi dari Erving Goffman. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk mengungkapkan strategi pembentukan citra diri mahasiswa di Instagram dan menganalisis perbedaan panggung depan (front stage) dan panggung belakang (back stage) dalam identitas digital. Wawancara mendalam dengan mahasiswa Pendidikan Ekonomi digunakan sebagai metode pengumpulan data. Analisis tematik mengidentifikasi tema dan pola dalam data. Hasil menunjukkan mahasiswa menggunakan strategi konten, penampilan visual, dan gaya komunikasi untuk membangun citra diri di Instagram. Mereka mengendalikan pesan dan kesan yang ditampilkan kepada pengikut dan pengguna platform. Studi ini menyoroti perbedaan panggung depan dan panggung belakang dalam identitas digital mahasiswa. Panggung depan melibatkan penampilan publik yang disesuaikan dengan harapan penonton, sementara panggung belakang melibatkan kehidupan pribadi yang lebih otentik. Mahasiswa menggunakan kedua dimensi ini untuk menciptakan citra diri yang diinginkan dan memengaruhi persepsi orang lain. Penelitian ini berimplikasi pada peran Instagram sebagai media pembentuk citra diri pada mahasiswa. Pemahaman yang lebih dalam tentang strategi pembentukan citra diri di Instagram dapat memberikan kontribusi dalam pengembangan pendekatan pembelajaran yang relevan. Studi ini juga memperluas pemahaman tentang peran media sosial dalam membentuk identitas individu di era virtual.
