Abstract

This research is concerned in analyzing of figurative language in the speech of President Jokowi in G20 Summit 2022 in the opening part of the speech. In this research, problems arise regarded the types and meaning of figurative language and the most dominant type of figurative language in the speech of President Jokowi in G20 Summit 2022. This research used the figurative language based in Perrine’s theory perception (1977:61). Figurative language consist of 12 kinds, there are; simile, metaphor, personification, apostrophe, synecdoche, metonymy, symbol, allegory, paradox, hyperbole/overstatement, understatement and irony. The methodology used in this research is qualitative research and this research used the content method. Document or content analysis is a research method applied to written or visual material with the aim of identifying certain characteristics of that material. The data in this research is speech of President Jokowi in G20 Summit 2022. After investigated the types of figurative language in the speech of President Jokowi in G20 Summit 2022, researcher found total of 15 sentences contained figurative language in the speech of President Jokowi. There are 5 types of figurative language used in the speech of President Jokowi from the 12 types of figurative language proposed by Perrine (1977:61). There are five types of figurative language found in President Jokowi's speech, namely: synecdoche: 5 data, metonymy: 3 data, paradox: 3 data, metaphor: 2 data, and irony: 2 data. The most dominant types of figurative language in the speech of President Jokowi in G20 Summit 2022 are synecdoche which represents were synecdoche 34%, metonymy 20%, paradox 20%, metaphor 13%, irony 13%. It can be concluded that President Jokowi's speech contains wise sentences and explains the essence of what he wants to convey to the audience, so that the audience is interested in listening and understanding the contents of the speech.

Abstract

The problem in this study is the lack of reinforcement, the lack of student writing skills. This study aims to determine The Effect Of Reinforcement On Writing Skill At Eleventh Grade Students In Smk Negeri 1 Pematang Siantar. The population in this study were eleventh grade OTKP students and the samples in this study were eleventh grade OTKP-2 students totaling 31 students. This type of research is non-experimental quantitative research, data collection techniques using a questionnaire expressed in the form of a Likert Scale and documentation. The test results show that (1) there is a significant influence between reinforcement on writing ability in eleventh grade students of OTKP SMK Negeri 1 Pematang Siantar obtained tcount>ttable of (3,082>2,045) with significance <0.05 (0.000<0.05), then in the determination test results obtained R Square of 0,24, this means that reinforcement (X1) is distributed by 24%, while the other 76% is explained by other variable not discussed in this study.

Abstract

Orai application is an online public speaking course application designed to overcome the problem of speaking with intonation and pacing from the basis of practice. This research aims to determine students' perceptions towards Orai as learning media of speaking skills in grade VIII of SMP N 1 Pematang Siantar. In this research, the data collection instruments used were observation sheet and questionnaires sheet. Observation was used to observe English teaching and le arning activities in using the Orai application. The questionnaire sheet consists of twenty statements regarding student perceptions of the use Orai application made in a Google Form. The source of data in this research was taken from students of grade VIII-2. There were 20 participants selected as samples in this research. This research used a qualitative method with a descriptive design. Findings from the results of data analysis, students have positive and negative perceptions of the use Orai application as an English learning media. There were 19 statements included in the positive perception with a percentage of 95% and there was 1 statement with a percentage of 5%. Hadi (2018)) stated that perception has 2 types, namely positive and negative. Most participants have a positive perception of Orai as learning media speaking skill with the majority of answers chosen by students strongly agree that Orai is very helpful in learning English.
