Abstract

Introduction: Otitis media (OM), a prevalent middle ear inflammation, often involves microbial colonization. The composition of the middle ear microbiota may influence OM outcomes, including recurrence, persistence, and treatment response. This meta-analysis investigated the relationship between the middle ear microbiota and OM outcomes. Methods: Longitudinal studies published from 2018 to 2024 that explored the middle ear microbiota and OM outcomes were systematically searched in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. Data on study design, participant characteristics, microbiota analysis, and OM outcomes were extracted. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. A random-effects model was used to pool effect estimates. Results: A total of 15 studies (n = 2,540 participants) met the inclusion criteria. The middle ear microbiota diversity was significantly lower in children with recurrent OM compared to those without (standardized mean difference [SMD] = -0.45, 95% confidence interval [CI] -0.62 to -0.28, p < 0.001). The presence of specific pathogens, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis, was associated with an increased risk of OM recurrence (odds ratio [OR] 1.75, 95% CI 1.32 to 2.31, p < 0.001). Additionally, microbial dysbiosis was associated with delayed resolution of OM and increased antibiotic treatment failure. Conclusion: The middle ear microbiota composition significantly impacts OM outcomes. Reduced diversity and specific pathogens are associated with increased OM recurrence. These findings highlight the potential for microbiota-targeted interventions in OM management.

Abstract

Abstract

Complications of pregnancy and childbirth as a cause of maternal death can be prevented by carrying out regular antenatal care (ANC) visits. Antenatal care is a comprehensive and quality antenatal service provided to all pregnant women. These services can be provided by doctors, midwives, nurses and other medical personnel who are trained and professional. The Indonesian government has made a policy for an integrated antenatal care program of quality and quantity, namely that antenatal care must implement the "7T" service standard with a minimum visit frequency of 4 times during pregnancy. Antenatal services can also be used to provide information to pregnant women and their families to carry out appropriate treatment and immediately have their pregnancy checked if there are danger signs during pregnancy. Factors that influence the health behavior of pregnant women when visiting ANC are divided into predisposing factors, enabling factors and reinforcing factors. Predisposing factors consist of age, education level, occupation, parity, knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women. Enabling factors include distance from residence, family income, and existing information media facilities. Meanwhile, strengthening factors include husband's support, family support, and attitudes and support from health workers..

Abstract

Environmental quality refers to the state or condition of the environment in a particular area, taking into consideration various factors that affect the well-being of living organisms, including humans. It encompasses the health and sustainability of ecosystems, air, water, soil, and other natural resources. The interpretation of environmental quality as providing optimal carrying capacity for human survival implies that the environment should meet certain criteria to support human life and well-being. This research aims to find out how to apply and development strategy in providing regional facilities and infrastructure to optimize environmental quality on Dompak Island as the Central Government Area of the Riau Islands Province. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through SWOT analysis. The research results found that the strategy for providing facilities and infrastructure to improve environmental quality on Dompak Island is by developing a drinking water supply system (SPAM), increasing drainage capacity, providing street lighting infrastructure, providing green open space, maintaining existing physical infrastructure, utilizing empty land. for the construction of parking lots, collaboration with other parties and strengthening regional management institutions. The novelty of this research involves various infrastructure components, effective use of resources, multi-party collaboration, institutional strengthening, and strategies based on SWOT analysis to achieve the goal of improving sustainable environmental quality on Dompak Island.

Abstract

Introduction: The innate immune system provides immediate protection in the event of an infection, while the adapted immune system provides a more specific response and has the ability to remember specific pathogens, thereby protecting the body from similar infections in the future. This study aimed to present the role of innate and adaptive immunity in staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS). Methods: The literature search process was carried out on various databases (PubMed, Web of Sciences, EMBASE, Cochrane Libraries, and Google Scholar) regarding the role of innate and adaptive immunity in staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome. This study follows the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) recommendations. Results: Five studies were included in this study. A combination of innate and adapted immune systems work together to overcome SSSS infections. Conclusion: The innate immune system provides a rapid initial defense, while the ad apted immune system provides a more specific response and the ability to form immune memory.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition where the blood vessels experience a continuous increase, while diastolic blood pressure is the blood pressure when the heart relaxes. This hypertension can be influenced by several factors, especially stress. Stress is a state or condition that arises due to the inability of a person experiencing stress to deal with stressors including circumstances and biological, psychological and social resources. One job that can be at risk of hypertension due to work stress is firefighting, because this job involves repeated exposure to traumatic events that can cause psychological problems. Method: This research uses quantitative methods through a cross sectional approach. This research was conducted at Batam University in December-January 2023/2024. The sampling technique used Isaac Michael's formula with a sample size of 43 out of 110 workers Result: The results of the analysis test using the Spearman Rank test showed a p result of 0.002 (<0.05), indicating that there was a significant relationship between stress levels and the incidence of hypertension. with a Spearman Rank correlation coefficient value of 0.432. Conclusion: Based on the research results, it was found that there was a relationship between stress and the incidence of hypertension in firefighting mitigation workers in Batam City in 2023.
