Abstract

One attempt to control the negative effects of television (TV) is to educate parents about the TV media and programs. TV media literacy for parents is needed, so that they as chaperone for their children have the ability to filter messages from TV programs, translate and interpret in accordance with the moral values. This study were aimed to survey media literacy of parents and develop media literacy learning for parents. The populations in this study were the parents of elementary school students of grades 4, 5, and 6 in the South Tangerang for the two districts, namely District of Ciputat and District Setu. Samples were taken purposively of 283 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews of 20 respondents in the activities of Focus Group Discussion. The process consisted of three stages, namely the survey, model development, and testing models. All three phases of activity showed the following results. Most of the respondents were knowledgeable about the TV program, and the values contained in the message of the TV program watched by their children. However, some respondents were misunderstood and unsure about the moral values contained in the TV program, so that their attitudes toward the TV programs watched by their children were loose. The second phase was built a learning model in multimedia package with a video format, which presented snippets of TV programs, and guidances from communication experts and child psychologists. This model is presented to respondents in the first focus group discussion. The next phase, the second focus group discussion was conducted to see changes in knowledge and attitudes of parents after receiving the learning model. The results showed that there were changes in knowledge and attitudes of parents about the TV programs watched by their children.

Abstract

Academic counseling in Higher Distance Education is one of the necessary instructional media between the faculty and the students as well as an important device for assisting students to cope and solve their problems. Up until now academic counseling has not been extensively used by lectures and students at the Universitas Terbuka because of a number of constraints such as unavailability of time, the disperse of student domicile and technological barriers. This study attempts to explore and examine the role of on-line academic counseling at Universitas Terbuka in particular at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP-UT). The finding shows that most students consider academic counseling as highly important to support student achievement. Accordingly online academic counseling needs to be more flexible and covers broader area. Online academic counseling needs a separate on-line forum aside the exciting forums such as online learning forum, smart teachers online, digital libraries, online bookstores, e-humanities, and learning object repositories. However, it is expected to be regularly scheduled and prompt response is imperative.

Abstract

Online tutorial for post graduate Universitas Terbuka students is compulsory. However, data from the report on the online tutorial activities show that student participation rate was low. This article presents a research result that shows the relationship between management factor and students’ participation in the online tutorials. This study used descriptive qualitative approach. The informans were the coordinator of the online tutorial and the Master Program students in the Public Administration Universitas Terbuka. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and observation. The result showed that the quality of management and tutor, the component of discussion score in the tutorial online, and the obstraction in the network had an impact on students’ participation rate in the online tutorials.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang kriminologi terhadap Kenakalan Remaja ini dilakukan karena merupakan sebuah perilaku yang menyimpang yang terjadi pada kalangan remaja. Kenakalan remaja menunjuk perilaku remaja yang tidak sesuai dengan norma-norma yang hidup di dalam masyarakatnya. Dari segi hukum kenakalan remaja digolongkan dalam dua kelompok yang berkaitan dengan norma-norma hukum yaitu: (1) kenakalan yang bersifat amoral dan sosial serta tidak diatur dalam undang-undang sehingga tidak dapat atau sulit digolongkan sebagai pelanggaran hukum; (2) kenakalan yang bersifat melanggar hukum dengan penyelesaian sesuai dengan undang-undang dan hukum yang berlaku sama dengan perbuatan melanggar hukum bila dilakukan orang dewasa. Selanjutnya budaya atau kebudayaan berasal dari bahasa Sansekerta yaitu buddhayah, yang merupakan bentuk jamak dari buddhi (budi atau akal) diartikan sebagai hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan budi dan akal manusia. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa, aparat penegak hukum benar-benar dapat memahami faktor-faktor penyebab hal tersebut, sehingga dapat merumuskan langkah-langkah yang efektif untuk mencegah agar kasus-kasus kejahatan yang dilakukan remaja tidak bertambah. Berdasarkan dari kasus yang ada di polresta Surakarta pada tahun ini terutama pada peran keluarga dalam mendidik anak pada usia remaja, tingkat kejahatan yang dilakukan oleh remaja masih tergolong rendah, hal ini dikarena peran pemerintah melalui dinas terkait dalam melakukan preventif pembinaan dan penyuluh berjalan dengan lancar dan terjadwal. Polresta Surakarta dalam menanggulangi remaja adalah: (1) Upaya preventif, berupa: (a) Penjagaan di tempat-tempat yang rawan terjadinya tindakan kenakalan remaja, (b) Patroli ke tempat-tempat yang rawan terjadinya kenakalan remaja, (c) Penyuluhan ke sekolah-sekolah, masyarakat, dan karangtaruna, (d) Penyampaian pesan-pesan Kamtibmas (keamanan dan ketertiban masyarakat) kepada para warga, (e) Pengaturan lalu lintas, (f) Latihan Safety Riding. (2) Upaya Represif, berupa: (a) Upaya (b) Penggiringan ke Dinas Sosial bagi para pekerja seks komersial untuk dibina, (c) Penilangan bagi pelanggar lalu lintas, (d) Upaya rehabilitasi bagi para penyalahguna narkoba, (e) Penangkapan para pelaku kenakalan remaja untuk selanjutnya diproses secara hukum Kata kunci : Kriminologi, Kenakalan Remaja, Surakarta

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the competence of tutors consisting of pedagogic competence, professional competence, personality competence and social competence in the learning process based on the perceptions of Open University students at Pokjar Grobogan. The design/methodology of this research is UPBJJ UT Surakarta students who conduct face-to-face learning by evaluating the competence of tutors, exploring questionnaires as a method of data collection. The analysis used is qualitative analysis with descriptive analysis to prove the competence of the tutor is good. Data processing is done by using percentages. The findings in this evaluation were found that students' perceptions related to tutor competence which consisted of pedagogic competence, professional competence, personality competence and social competence, in general at Pokjar Grobogan it was good. results will risk biasing the results. This study uses a research instrument adopted from a regulatory questionnaire, so that it is possible to find some weaknesses. Research development using the direct interview method in order to reduce weaknesses related to internal validity and expand the research object so that the results can be generalized
