Abstract

English is international language that used by people in this world to get something like knowledge, information, and communication. In Indonesia, English used as school subject because English is important to students’ future in their careers, especially interaction with foreigner, because in Indonesia many interesting destination for foreigner, media and technology use English to inform the information or knowledge. Those are reasons, Indonesian must be able to understand English especially in words meaning in English, because translation is important to know information which use English media. ). For this research, the researchers use descriptive analysis research. The researchers directly find accurate data of difficulties in translating from source language into target language or SL into TL. The researchers have got students’ test result, based on the result it shows that the students still confuse to convey the meaning from source language, the students translate the text word by word and the meaning not deliver, and the researchers have got students’ test result, based on the result it shows that the students could not to use equivalent, they still lack of vocabulary mastery, they could not translate the sentence, because in English one word has many meaning, and confuse how to use equivalent words in translation that they states from interview “i still lack of vocabulary mastery” and “in English one word many meaning thus we could not translate the sentence because depend on the topic”.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to know the effect of using Ganze Method is effective to be used on the Eight Grade Students’ Reading Comprehension at SMPN 16 Kota Tangerang. Ganze Method is a method of teaching reading comprehension that gives the opportunities to the students to outline and translate the text by the students own words. Reading comprehension is complex highly process that increases students’ knowledge, the context of the text, and expectation by interaction between the students. Ganze method applied in teaching reading could be an effective method. It was very helpful for the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension. The method used in this research was quantitative method. The design of this research was quasi - experiment to know the effectiveness of using Ganze method on the students’ reading comprehension. The result can be seen that using Ganze Method as the method is effective on the students’ reading comprehension. It could be seen from the average of post - test result in Experimental Class was 80.98, and the average of pre-test was 61.25. The average of post-test result in controlled class was 67.42, and the average of pre-test was 60.11. The result of the t – test of post-test also showed that there was a significant difference between experimental and control class, t – count of ɑ = 5% and dƒ = 68 was 4.92, and for t – table was 1.99. The calculation proved that t-count was higher than t-table. It can be concluded that Ganze method can be considered to use for teaching reading comprehension since it can expand the students’ knowledge and information with the text easily.

Abstract

This research aimed at analyzing translation accuray of student translation between the source language (SL) in Bahasa and target language (TL) in English and finding out the translation process used by student at Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang. The object of this research is 6th Grade Student at Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang. The researcher focuses on the accuracy of student translation results in range accurate, less accurate and inaccurate based on Accurate Translation Rate proposed by Nababan (2012). The researcher also analyzes the translation process based on Nida and Taber’s theory (1969). In conclusion, researcher found that the accuracy of translation is rated by a lecturer of English Education Study Program of Teachers Training and Education Faculty of Muhammadiyah Tangerang with the results  83,1% translations are accurate, 15,3% translations are less accurate and 1,6.% translation are inaccurate. While, the researcher found that most of translation process used by students is non sequentially process (71%), and the sequentially process is 29%.

Abstract

This research was intended to describe types of speech acts performed by English lecturers in learning process at Madrasah Aliyah Pondok Pesantren Al-Kamil. This research was descriptive qualitative. The data of this research were the English utterances performed by English Teachers. The researcher obtained the data by means of observation technique. In observation technique the researcher used recording instruments, sound recorder, to record the classroom dialogues. Next, the researcher writes some data into note to as a additional data report The researcher analyzes the directive speech act in this research using Kreidler’s theory (1998). Based on the observation, the researcher found three types of directive speech act. They are command/order, request, Warning or prohibitation. In conclusion, the researcher found directives speech act from observation are 3 utterances are command/order (2,80%) , 2 utterances are requesting (1,87%), 1 utterance is warning (0,93%), and 101 utterances are unidentified (94,39%)

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know types of students’ errors and the most common or least type of students’ error in using degrees of comparison of adjective at eight grade students of SMP Islam Ayatra. Degrees of comparison is an important element of grammar that rules how to change the form adjective to show a comparison. The research used qualitative method. The participants of this research consisted of thirty students. The source of the data in this research was collected from students’ written test in using degrees of comparison of adjective. The result of this research stated that there were four types of errors, they are omission, addition, substitution, and permutation. The total of them is 485 errors. The highest percentage type of error was substitution with 54,64% (total frequency of errors was 265). And the lowest percentage type of error was addition with 2,06% (total frequency of errors is 10).

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether using the Lost In Translation film media can improve student understanding in  culture and language in the sociolinguistic class and how a film with the title Lost In Translation can affect student understanding. This study uses a qualitative approach in a descriptive analytical model. The instruments or tools used by researchers in collecting data were questionnaires and documents. a questionnaire (list of statements) containing 20 statements with a Likert scale which  results will be described descriptively, in taking the assessment the researcher calculates the results of the questionnaire which is a seventh semester student of sociolinguistics class content and documents in the form of photos of several film scenes showing the existence of several cultures and languages this movie. The results of the study have shown the final score of 2158 with an average grade  of 120 which indicates that students agree that the Lost In Translation film media can affect students' understanding  and knowing the language culture in the seventh semester sociolinguistics class of the Faculty of Education and Education at Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the sixth semester students’ pronunciation at University of Muhammadiyah Tangerang in Academic Year 2021/ 2022 in relation to English words which having vowels and diphthongs. This research is a kind of a qualitative research which designed through several stages, they are; the process of data collection, analyzing the gaining data, and interpreting the gaining data that has been analyzed. This research has selected 30 students to take part as respondents in this research. Simple random sampling has been used to select those 30 respondents who take part in this research. The results show that, there have been several issues which may be obstacles to students’ pronunciation, especially to English words which having vowels and diphthongs sounds, they are: the effect of the first language, lack of awareness in phonemic symbols, miss-hearing the pronunciation features, and neurobiology of affective. However, in accordance with the issues related to students’ pronunciation, there have been found several solution which may be value to overcome those issues mentioned, they are; creating own habit in English during daily communications, increasing awareness in phonemic symbols, increasing the level of activities in relation to listening which may be value to encourage awareness in hearing various pronunciation features. Keywords: Pronunciation, Vowels, and Diphthongs

Abstract

This article presents a qualitative investigation into the types of Lexical Forms and meanings used in the online game Valorant, with a specific focus on how players employ different registers within the game's context. The study explores sociolinguistic theories related to register and online gaming, and employs qualitative methods to collect and analyze data from YouTube and Streaming videos. By examining the diverse linguistic practices of Valorant players, this research aims to shed light on the communicative strategies utilized in this gaming community.
