Abstract

This research began with the lowness of students' mathematical communication skills, one of which is caused by pembelajaaran which remains centered on the teacher. One effort to overcome the problem is to apply the model of contextual learning. This study aims to determine the mathematical communication skills of students who take the learning with contextual learning model is better than the students who take the conventional learning models in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Baso. This type of research is experimental research design that Randomized Control Only Design. The population in this study was grade VIII1, VIII2, VIII3, VIII3, VIII4, VIII5 SMP Negeri 1 Baso in academic year 2016/2017. Sampling was done by using Random Sampling. Class VIII1 an experimental class and class VIII4 a control class. Instrument of research is mathematical communication ability test. Analysis of the data used is the t test. Hypothesis test results obtained and with and df = 43, so. Based on the criteria for means test reject H0 and it can be concluded that the mathematical communication skills students learn by using contextual learning model is better than learning by using conventional learning models. Abstract

This research is motivated by the learning of mathematics held still centered on the teacher, thus causing low student understanding of mathematical concepts. One way to improve the understanding of mathematical concepts with the application of learning models Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). This research is a quasi-experimental research, the design Randomized Control Group Only Design. The population in this study were all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 2 X Koto consisting of four classes. The sampling technique researchers use a Random samplin. Samples were selected namely VIII2 class as an experimental class and class VIII3 as the control class. Testing the hypothesis used t-test at the level of α = 0.05 obtained t = 2.3105 and table = 1,69, because thitung> ttable then the hypothesis is accepted on the level of 95%. It can be concluded that the students' understanding of mathematical concepts by using model Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) is better than the conventional learning models eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 X Koto in the academic year 2014/2015. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pembelajaran matematika yang dilaksanakan masih berpusat pada guru, sehingga menyebabkan pemahaman konsep matematika siswa rendah. Salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematika dengan penerapan model pembelajaran Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen semu, dengan rancangan Randomized Control Group Only Desain. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 X Koto yang terdiri dari empat kelas. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang peneliti gunakan adalah Random Samplin. Sampel yang terpilih yaitu kelas VIII2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII3 sebagai kelas kontrol. Pengujian hipotesis digunakan uji-t pada taraf α = 0,05 diperoleh thitung = 2,3105 dan ttabel = 1,69, karena thitung > ttabel maka hipotesis yang diajukan diterima pada taraf kepercayaan 95%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemahaman konsep matematika siswa dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) lebih baik dari pada model pembelajaran konvensional siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 X Koto Tahun Pelajaran 2014/2015.
