Abstract

This is a classroom action research aims at describing the application of cooperative learning model of Think Pair Share type to improve mathematic communication ability on social arithmetic material of the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 9 Palu. The learning model of Think Pair Share comprises seven phases of learning, namely: (1) Material display, (2) Thingking together, (3) Transition to pair, (4) Monitoring, (5) Sharing answer, (6) Evaluation and (7) Reward. The design of the research adopted from Kemmis and Mc Taggart consisting of four stage, namely: Planning, implementation of action, observation and reflection. The subject was all student of class VIIF numbered 30 persons. The data collection was test, observation and field-notes. The data analysis refers to analysis developed by Miles and Huberman consisting of three stages, namely: (1) Data reduction, (2) Data display, and (3) Drawing conclusion. The research result reveals that the application of cooperative learning model of Think Pair Share type can improve mathematic communication ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Palu on social arithmetic material.
