Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Objective -This study aims to describe students' ability in writing short story texts at seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kolaka. The type of research was classroom action research.The Design/methodology/approach - The method used in this research was descriptive quantitative method. The sampling technique used was the total sampling technique, which is as many as 30 people. This research was an essay test for students in writing short stories. To find out the category of students' ability in writing short story texts, it refers to the mastery or student learning outcomes individually and classically used in SMP Negeri 1 Kolaka.The Findings/Results - Based on the results of research and discussion, it can be concluded that the process and results of writing short story text skills for class VII SMP Negeri 1 Kolaka through learning the treffenger model based on students' creativity have increased. In terms of process, in pre-action observations, students seemed to complain when asked to write short story texts, and did not participate actively during learning. In the first cycle, students were no longer complaining, students are starting to complain less, and students are already actively participating in learning. In cycle II, students were more interested when asked to write anecdotal texts, were more active independently during short story writing activities, and actively participated in learning in a coherent and well manner. Furthermore, in terms of results, the results of anecdotal text writing skills, class VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Kolaka through learning the treffenger model based on students' creativity increased. The percentage of students' completed in the first cycle was 60.00%, and the second cycle was 86.67%.Keywords: short stories, student's ability, writing, and treffinger
