Abstract

Post isometric relaxation-muscle energy technique (PIR-MET) plays a role in increasing muscle strength in the condition of knee osteoarthritis, which is a degenerative disease of synovial joints. Physiologically, osteoarthritis has a decreased muscle strength deficit. The purpose of this study was to track the comparison of the effectiveness of PIR-MET on increasing muscle strength based on the frequency of visits 2 times / week and 3 times / week. The measuring instrument for this study uses manual muscle testing. The PIR-MET exercise dose is carried out for 8-10 counts/set with 5-10 sets and a pause of 5 seconds/set, 3 repetitions for 6 treatments. This population as many as 35 people were taken at random who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The number of samples was 30 people who were divided into 2 groups. Group 1; PIR-MET 2x/week and group 2; PIR-MET 3x/week. Data processing using SPSS version 22.00 using the Mann-Whitney hypothesis test. With the results of the median pre and post group 1 obtained; 4.00 and 5.00. The median pre-post value of group 2 was obtained; 3.00 and 5.00. To state the effect of each group, the Wilcoxon test p-value was 0.00 and the hypothesis test results showed a p-value of 0.539. By conclusion; there was no significant difference between the intervention with the frequency of visits 2 times and 3 times a week; and significantly both the frequency of visits both have a positive effect on muscle strength in knee osteoarthritis. Keywords: post isometric relaxation; osteoarthritis knee; muscle strenght ABSTRAK Post isometric relaxation-muscle energy technique (PIR-MET) berperan meningkatkan kekuatan otot pada kondisi osteoarthritis knee yang merupakan penyakit degeneratif pada sendi-sendi sinovial.
