This study aims to determine which food crop commodities have comparative and competitive advantages and the contribution of the food crop sub-sector to the regional economy of Sumedang Regency. The method used is a case method. The results of data analysis show the following: 1) rice commodity is a food commodity with competitive and comparative advantages in most sub-districts. 2) food crop commodities provide a high contribution to the regional economy of Sumedang Regency. Meanwhile, the labor elasticity shows inelastic because each rate of economic growth increases by 1% while the labor force is decreasing by 0.046%. Based on the research results, it is suggested that there should be activities to develop food commodity areas in basic and non-basic areas, so that the competitiveness of food commodities in these areas will increase
