Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan studi kasus yang dilakukan pada siswa kelas VII SMPIT Nurul Fikri Boarding School yang dilatarbelakangi oleh kesulitan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal segiempat dan segitiga. Namun, diketahui bahwa salah satu penyebab kesulitan yang terjadi adalah karena kemampuan koneksi matematis siswa. Kemampuan koneksi matematika salah satu kemampuan matematis yang harus dimiliki siswa karena kemampuan ini merupakan standar kurikulum yang ditetapkan oleh NCTM. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesulitan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal materi segiempat dan segitiga ditinjau dari kemampuan koneksi matematis. Metode kualitataif dengan pendekatan deskriptif diterapkan dalam penelitian ini. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 3 siswa yang masing-masing berkatagori memiliki kemampuan koneksi matematis baik, cukup baik dan sangat buruk. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara diketahui bahwa siswa mengalami permasalahan pada soal yang diberikan karena adanya factor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan koneksi matematis, seperti pengetahuan prasyarat, pengetahuan mata pelajaran lain dan pengalaman dalam kehidupan sehari-hari yang berkaitan dengan matematika.Kata Kunci: Kemampuan Koneksi Matematis, Kesulitan Siswa This research is a case study conducted in class VII at SMPIT Nurul Fikri Boarding School, which is motivated by students' difficulties in solving quadrilateral and triangle problems. However, it is known that one of the causes of the difficulties that occur is due to the students’ mathematical connection ability. Mathematical connection ability is one of the mathematical abilities that must be possessed by students because mathematical connection skills are the curriculum standards set by NCTM. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to discover the students' difficulties in solving quadrilateral and triangle material problems in terms of mathematical connection abilities. A qualitative method with a descriptive approach was applied to this study. The research subjects were 3 students, each of whom is categorized as having good, good enough, and very poor mathematical connection ability. Data collection was carried out using interview techniques. Based on the results of the interviews, it is known that students have difficulty understanding the problems in the question set due to factors that affect the ability of mathematical connections, such as prerequisite knowledge, knowledge of other subjects, and experiences in everyday life related to mathematics.Keywords: Mathematical Connection Ability, Student Difficulties
