Abstract

The Buton Sultanate that existed in Southeast Sulawesi in the past left an interesting historical trail, including its legal institutions. The Buton Sultanate after Islamization attempted to apply Islamic law system. The organization of the judiciary in the Buton Sultanate consists of the Syarana Adati who is authorized in a criminal case and Lawsuit then Syarana Agama on certain civil cases such as marriage, divorce and inheritance. That system can be categorized as Islamic Courts because the law is run based on Islamic law and fulfills elements of Islamic Court. The institution is an important part of Islamic law enforcement because it has been supported by strong structures, legal substances and legal culture both in law enforcers and in the community. The implications of this research are the need to adapt the values and spirit of Islamic law enforcement in the Buton Sultanate to contemporary society.
