Abstract

This research aims to identify hydrothermal mineral deposits using geomagnetic methods. The geomagnetic method used to obtain anomaly of magnetic field intensity contrast. Furthermore, there is also been conducted taking and analysis samples of rock using petrography, ore microscopic and XRD. It is done to obtain mineralogical characteristics of hydrothermal mineral deposits that becoming the exploration target. The results showed that hydrothermal mineral deposits in research area was characterized by hydrothermal alteration of argillic (kaoline-illite), propylitic (calcite-chlorite) and skarn (quatrz-calcite-pyroxine/ clinopyroxine). Ore minerals are present of sulphide minerals such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, covelit and oxide minerals such as hematite abundance. The existence of hydrothermal mineral deposits are associated with skarn type deposit. Zones of mineral deposits of metallic ores are characterized by a significant contrast magnetic anomalies with high magnetic field intensity higher than 110,31 nT on the total magnetic intensity anomaly and higher than 11,09 nT on the residual magnetic intensity anomaly, as the response from the presence of metal in the ore mineral enrichment of rock material.keywords : hydrothermal minerals, magnetic field anomaly, petrography, ore microscopic, XRD skarn, Kasihan

Abstract

This study was taken as a part of volcano geology mapping at Ngebel area including volcanostratigraphy and structural geology interpretations by optimizing the satellite remote sensing and terestrial data. Ngebel area is located at the western flank of Mt. Wilis volcanic complex, Madiun District, East Java, Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to obtain the effectiveness of atmospherically corrected satellite image of Landsat-8 OLI (Operational Land Imager) TIRS (Thermal Infrared Sensor) and rock magnetic susceptibility for identifying volcanic products. The Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS image processing is performed in two steps: pre and post field observation. The pre field observation step was treated by processing and analysing the Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS to produce geomorphological units, circular/linear feature, rock unit boundary, and interpreted eruption center by examining image color, tone, and texture. Furthermore, the reflectance spectra analyses of Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS were obtained to define detailed volcanic product unit boundary after the field observation performed. Magnetic susceptibility of the rocks was used to classify the volcanostratigraphic units based on their magnetization degree of the induced rocks. Considering the  magnetic susceptibility, there are suggested two groups of volcanic unit or Hummocks (Gumuk): Hummock of Ngebel with low susceptibility (9.9×10-3 – 20.7×10-3) and Hummock of Manyutan with medium (20.7×10-3 – 48.7×10-3) to high susceptibility (≥48.7×10-3). Noticing the reflectance spectra of Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS, it can be defined five volcanic rock units: pyroclastic fall Ngebel (reflectance value at  0.63 – 0.71), pyroclastic flows Ngebel (reflectance value at 0.71 – 0.74),  pyroclastic flow Manyutan (reflectance value at 0.74 – 0.78), lava Manyutan 1 (reflectance value at 0.78 – 0,84), and Lava Manyutan 2 (reflectance value at  ≥0.84).Keyword: Volcanostratigraphy, Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS, magnetic susceptibility, reflectance, Ngebel

Abstract

Fine-grained pyroclastic rocks  found in the Cibadak area, Sukabumi divided into two groups, namely Tertiary tuff composing of Jampang Formation and Quarternary tuff as the result of  young volcanic eruptions. The relationship between mineralogy and geochemistry of those tuffs are discussed in this paper. Laboratory testing was conducted on fifty rock samples taken from the field. A kind of mineralogy composing the rock can be identified by the XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) mineralogy test, while the major oxide of the rock can be calculated with the XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) geochemistry test. The XRD mineralogy test shows  two secondary mineral that becomes the differentiation between the two tuffs are zeolites and clay minerals. The zeolites present at most of the Tertiary tuffs as a result of the rock alteration which involves an increasing in formation temperature and pressure. Clay minerals are mostly present at the Quarternary tuffs as a result of rock wheathering on the surface. The zeolite and clay minerals are associated with almost all chemical oxides of the rocks. The chemical oxides including SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, MgO, K2O, TiO, and MnO. The XRF rock-chemically characters show there are no differences of the chemical oxide components on both of these pyroclastic rock groups. Keywords: mineralogy, geochemistry, tuff, Tertiary, Quarternary.

Abstract

Sanggau and surrounding areas are geologically have various of the type and age of rocks. Therefore, this study is aimed to explore the possible influence of the diversity of geological conditions on mineralization occurring in this region, especially concerning the presence of metal minerals. As an implementation, geological surveys consist of field observations and laboratory analysis have been conducted to determine the chemical characteristics of mineralization occurring in the region. The Atomic Absorbtion Spectrometry method was chosen to determine the content of each element of base metal and precious metal contained in the rock in the region. From the analysis results it is known that there is a tendency of distribution of elementary metal elements and precious metal elements scattered in different areas. The Late Oligocene-Early Miocene Sintang Intrusive rocks are generally exposed in the northern part of the research area, in which by the chemical analysis contains more dominant elements which are associated with precious metals such as Cu and Au. While in the southern research area which is generally occupied by the Cretaceous Granodiorite Mensibau Intrusive Rocks based on chemical analysis, containing the elements associated with base metals such as Pb and Zn. This pattern shows that both types and age of different intrusive rocks bring different mineralized products. Keywords : base metal, precious metal, intrusive, mineralisation

Abstract

Investigation of methane adsorption capacity has been performed in Sambaliung Area, Berau, East Kalimantan (Latih Formation) and Sawahlunto Area, West Sumatra (Sawahlunto Formation). The study involves some analyses: methane sorption, petrography, and proximate. Adsorption isotherm analysis reveals storage capacity of Sambaliung and Sawahlunto coals about 113 to 269 scf/ton (daf) and from 486 to 561 scf/ton (daf), respectively. The adsorption capacity of the coals is thought to be related with formation pressure represented by depth as well as coal rank. The Sambaliung coal rank is low as indicated by the lower vitrinite reflectance (Rr about 0.38%) and higher total moisture (TM about 31%, ar). The Sawahlunto coal rank is higher as indicated by higher Rr (about 0.72%) and lower TM (about 6%, ar).
