Abstract

The eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010 leads to the lahar flow disaster in the region of the mountain slopes. Due to the impact caused by the lahar flow, it is important to develop warning criteria for lahar flow disaster with a simple method corresponding to the limitation of existing data and parameters. One of the methods is by analyzing rainfall data to predict the occurrence of lahar flow in Gendol River. It applies the setting of standard rainfall for warning and evacuation of sediment disasters based on Guidelines for the Development of Warning and Evacuation System against Sediment Disasters in Developing Countries, published by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MLIT) Infrastructure Development Institute - Japan, 2004. This study analyzed the critical line (CL) which can be used to predict the occurrence of lahar flow based on the rain characteristics namely working rainfall and rainfall intensity. Furthermore, it can be established by warning line (WL) and the evacuation line (EL) as a basis for determining the standard rainfall for warning (R1) and standard rainfall for evacuation (R2). The value of R1 obtained ± 6 mm and R2 ± 29 mm. The value of R1 and R2 are strongly influenced by the availability of rainfall data and occurrence of lahar flow. The results of this research were expected to be used as input for the warning criteria development of early warning system lahar flow disaster on the slopes of Mount Merapi, particularly in the area of Gendol River.

Abstract

Tramway systems, which can carry more passengers than buses at one haul, are now being proposed to meet Indonesia’s public transport requirement. The objective of this research is to analyze the management structures for operating tram in different countries and then propose a suitable organizational structure for operating trams, if re-introduced, in Indonesia. The author chose France (Montpellier tramway), Germany (Karlsruhe tram-train) and the UK (Nottingham Express Transit) as the role model countries for investigation. From the analysis, the most appropriate organizational structure and suitable tramway management structure for operating tramways implementation in Indonesia. The key features of the research are to establish public transport company by local government to manage all public transport systems, propose tramway construction and operation to exist as separate departments under the tramway team division of the public company, recommend the public transport company to have responsibility for overseeing construction of the trams, operating, and maintaining the trams, suggest local government to own them and have responsibility for tramway strategic policy, control regulation as well as supervision and coordination of the performance of the public transport company, propose joint working between public and private sectors.

Abstract

Landslide often occurs in tropical hills area, such as Indonesia. Research on landslide hazard evaluation is necessary to decrease the impact in affected and surrounding areas. Empirical-statistical methods can be used to predict landslide run out distance in an effort to avoid the danger of landslide occurrences. This study aims to determine the correlation between landslide run out distance against high, slope, and volume based on mechanisms and causes of soil or rock mass movement. Data mainly from 106 landslides in Indonesia has been analyzed to search for possible correlations and empirical correlations, there are 34 rotational slides, 54 translational slides, 8 debris flows, and 10 rock falls. Analysis begins by studying the characteristics of the data (explanatory data analysis) and then analyzed by using empirical methods such as geomorphological assessment and geometrical approaches. Then the data is processed by simple linear regression and multiple linear regression method using the R software. The results obtained from the analysis of the general empirical equation form of the correlation between height (H) and run out distance (L) is 1.066H1.093, respectively. This results indicate the higher altitude slopes, the greater distance will happen. The results of the analysis correlation between height and run out distance for the type of mass movements for rotational is L=1.346+1.788 H, translational is L=-3.88+1.578H, debris flow is L=0.682H1.29, and rock fall is L=2.223H0.897. This result shows debris flows landslide run out distance is greater than rotational, translational and rock fall. The results of the analysis correlation between height and run out distance of the trigger due to the rain is L=1.267H1.027, and by an earthquake is L=0.574H1.38. This results show run out distance caused by an earthquake is larger than caused by rain. The correlation between the run out distance and volume (V) yields empirical equation which is V=0.772L2.108. This results indicate that greater run out distance is affected by the growing volume of mass movement. The results of the analysis correlation between height and slope (θ) to run out distance is L=1.448H1.062 tan θ-0,482. This results indicate that slope has a significant impact on the value of landslide run out distance.

Abstract

Traveling between the center of Jakarta and Soekarno Hatta International Airport (SHIA) is further constrained by the limited number of main routes available which likely cannot be accommodated in the future by road based transport modes alone. Hence, the airport needs to develop airport surface access to accommodate its network. The aim of this research is to analyze the railway access system for developing the system of SHIA using multi criteria analysis in the selection of alternative route alignment of the railway line and a qualitative study in data collection within the research design. Development of the criteria includes technical, economic, environmental and spatial aspect. Three alternatives have been proposed in this analysis, i.e. through West Jakarta, through North and West Jakarta and through North and Central Jakarta. The results show that alternative 3 (through North and Central Jakarta) can give implications to the airport users, i.e. providing a high standard of the rail link in a well-timed manner and a cost-effective public transport link. Improving the multi-modal access to the airport will improve the supply of employment to business, lead to urban regeneration around station locations, and improve Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Area regional competitiveness.

Abstract

Lahar flow in the region of Mount Merapi after an eruption of 2010 is still considered potentially to happen and threat the region along the river from the upstream. The development of warning criteria against the potential occurrence of lahar flow is a thing that should be done continuously to accommodate dynamics data availability (rainfall data and lahar flow occurrence data), although with limited data. This study aims to develop lahar warning system applying snake line as a rain phenomenon in Putih catchment area which will affect the occurrence of lahar flow and to evaluate the success rate of snake line for deciding the warning system. This study used the main reference from Guidelines for Development of Warning and Evacuation System against Sediment Disasters in Developing Countries released by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Infrastructure Development Institute – Japan (2004). This research was conducted through several stages, i.e. secondary data collection in the form of rainfall data, lahar flow occurrence data, making correlation graph between rainfall intensity and working rainfall, determination of critical line, warning line and evacuation line. The results show that standard rainfall for warning and evacuation alert in Putih River are 22 mm, and 49 mm, respectively. The accuracy of warning criteria and the evacuation criteria against snake line for warning line is 30%, evacuation line is 61% and the critical line is 83%. The behavior of snake line that indicates lahar flow occurrence in Putih River forming an angle of 40o up to 45o.

Abstract

Aims of this research are to determine the prominent factor behind car dependency, examine the correlation between the factors that indicate car dependency, and the correlation between social status and car use in Jakarta. The primary question of this research is “What are the influence factors behind car dependency in Jakarta? Does prestige influence car use behavior in Jakarta?” By using Jakarta as a case study, the research applies Factor Analysis and Logistic Regression Analysis based on Theory of Planned Behavior. It used to measure individual’s behavior based on attitudes toward behavior, subjective norm, and perceive behavior. The result shows that factors of dependency in term of car users consist of the starting place, habits, and control belief. While factors on car dependency for car users on occasion are intention and control belief. Correlation between prestige and car use is identified based on attitudes and subjective norm. For car users, attitudes are influenced by higher degrees of prestige which is slightly contrary to people who use cars occasionally. Other indicators of prestige are car types which can influence people’s behavior in using the car. The conclusion which can be drawn from the results are no significant correlation found between car dependency and social status, but significant in the case of correlation between car use and social status.
