Abstract

Automotive sector which is one of the biggest industry has been producing paint sludge waste in enormous amount that could be dangerous for environment sustainability. To overcome this  problem of course waste treatment approach is important, butsomehow the big investment and operational cost is often become restriction in adopting this kind of approach.Another alternative was to process the paint sludge waste onto more  useful product (recycle). The large fraction of organic material in paint sludge has leaded an opportunity to recycle this waste ontoactivated carbon through thermal decomposition and activation process. Thermal decomposition process in 310°C without activation step has produce activated carbon which has iod number 104.81 mg/g, while the same decomposition process continue with activation step give iod number 91.87 mg/g. These results indicate that paint sludge waste could be recycle onto   activated carbon which not only could reduce the environmentpollution but also could give economical benefit. Another characterization also done by DTA and FTIR to get additional information about the surface topography and chemicalfunctional groups of activated carbonproduced.Keyword: adsorben t, activation, thermaldecomposition, activated carbon, paintsludge

Abstract

Streptomyces ISP 192 was family of Actinomycetes which was high value microorganism that industrially important because it was capablefor producing ofbioactive compound that very useful in the field of medicine that is antibiotic. Recently antibiotic is still eligible medicine to overcome infection disease, but many more organism that cause of infection have been resistant against various antibiotics so need to look for a new antibiotic. This research cover cultivation of Streptomyces ISP 192 in potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium then fermentation by 250 mL shakeflash with 50 ml working volume. Microorganism was inoculated in fermentation medium MF1 and MF2 that contain (%)w/v variation of starch and glucose to bea source of carbon as soon as (%)v/v variation of inoculum. Fermentation process was conducted in 30°C temperature with 150 rpm shaking for seven days. Regularly for each 24 hour, sample was taken for analyzing ofpH, glucose and protein concentration, dry weight of cell and testing of anti fungal activity against Candida albicans, Microsporum gypseum, Tricophyton sp. dan Aspergillus niger. The result of research showed Streptomyces ISP 192 has high anti fungal activities against Candida albicans, Microsporum gypseum, Tricophyton sp., in usage of fementation media MF2 with 10 % glucose to be a carbonsource and 10% inoculum but not have activited against Aspergillus niger. Biosynthesis of antibiotic anti fungal start from 4th to 6th day that indication indecreasing of glucose and protein concentration as well aspH.Keywords: Streptomyses ISP 192, fermentation, testing ofantifungal activities.

Abstract

Lupinus angustifolius is legume that has high protein. Most of this plant growth in Australia. Another name of L. angustifolius is Australian sweet lupin. L. angustifolius is potentially use as the source of food. Tofu is one of the traditional foods in Indonesia.Tofu is madefrom the coagulation of soybean protein. L. angustifolius has globulin protein that has a role in the production of tofu. The price of L. angustifolius is cheaper than soybean. In this research, L. angustifolius has beenused as the substitution in the tofu production. Thepurpose of this researchis toknow the nutrition and potential of L. angustifolius as the substitute in tofu. This research is also monitoring the effect of coagulant agent that is used in tofu. The research result shows that the optimum concentration substitution of lupin that is used in tofu is 30% with CaCl2 coagulant agent. The tofu that is made from 30% lupin with CaCl2 contained 17.22% protein, 5.23 fat, and 1.14% carbohydrate. The observation shows that tofu that is made from 30% substitution of L. angustifolius has higher protein than tofu which is without substitution of L. angustifolius. Keywords: Lupinus angustifolius, coagulant agent, tofu, protein.

Abstract

A comprehensive kinetic study on dimethyl carbonate synthesis by transesterification of ethylene carbonate with methanol has been conducted. An alkali base metal (KOH) was used as catalyst in the synthesis of DMC and its catalytic ability was investigated in term of kinetics. The reaction orders, the activation energy and the rate constants were determined for both forward and backward reactions. The reaction is reversible and the equilibrium rate constant wasestimated to be 135.77exp(-16542.4/RT).Keywords : dimethyl carbonate synthesis, transesterification reaction, kinetic study on DMC synthesis

Abstract

Research on physicochemical properties and antioxidant activity of VCO obtained from Rhizopus orizaefermentation had been done. Antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH method. Production of VCO had been carried out from coconut sample obtained from Pandeglang region with fermentation by Rhizopusorizae in variation of inoculum asfollow 2%, 5%, 7%, 10% and 12 %. Physicochemical test consist of density, refractive index, water content, free fatty acid, iodine value, peroxide value while the composition of fatty acid determined by GCMS, The result showed that variation of inoculum had significantly 0,024 influenced the yielded of VCO producted. Based on this result, quality of VCO still in the range of CODEX Standard, 19-1991rev.2-1999. It was found that antioxidant activity of VCO only 6.3% at 1000 ppm. The composition offatty acid based in lauric acid content measured by GCMS showed a significant result (49.48%-50%) agreed with COD EX Standard.Keyword: Antioxidant, DPPH, veo, Fermentation,Rhizopus oriza.

Abstract

Study on antioxidant activity and bioactivity of water and ethanol extracts from the leaves and twigs of mistletoe (Macrosolen cochinchinensis (Lour.) Van Tiegh) that grew on jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) tree as the host have been conducted. Water extracts of the M. cochinchinensis leaves andtwigs were active as antioxidant with IC50 23.08 ug/mL dan 21.56 ug/mL respectively. Whereas the ethanol extracts of both leaves and twigs was not active because the ICso higher than 100 ug/mL (not active as antioxidant against DPPH). Both water and ethanol extracts of M. cochinchinensis leaves and twigs did not showed bioactivity against Artemia salina Leach brine shrimp with each extracts has LCso higher than 1000 pg/mL.Key words Antioxidant, Bioactivity, Macrosolen cochinchinensi (Lour.) van Tiegh., Artocarpus heterophyllus. Abstract

Antidiabetic activity of aqueous extract from coriandrum sativum had been evaluated by using glucose tolerance test in mice. Mice were divided into five groups randomly and each group consists of six animals. In the glucose tolerance test on mice, 30, 60, 120 and 180 minutes after the administration of the extract at a dose of 8 mg/kgbb, serum glucose concentration decreased by 17.07%, 26.31%, 31.3% and 32.55% respectively. Antidiabetic activity of theextract showed no significant changes to that of control group (p<0.05).Keywords : Coriandrum sativum, water extract, glucose tolerance test, blood glucose level.
