Abstract

ABSTRACT The research was a classroom action research. It aimed to to find out weither the implementation of Think Pair Share strategy to improve students' reading comprehension. The subjects of this research were Semester 4 students of English Study Program of Universitas Prof. Dr. Hazairin, S.H Bengkulu which consisted of five females and three males The instruments of the research were reading comprehension test, observation checklists and questionnaire. This research focused on reading comprehension. The research was conducted in two cycles that consisted of four steps in each cycle namely plan, action, observation, and reflection. The result of reading comprehension test showed that Think-Pair-Share strategy improved students’ reading comprehension students Mean score in cycle 1 is 62,9 increased to 79,2 in cycle 2.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was aimed at: (1) 1) finding out how the use of role play in improving the students` English speaking ability; and (2) finding out whether or not the use of role play was able to improve the quality of Students` English speaking in Midwifery Major in Medical InstitutionBengkulu, Indonesia. This study applied Classroom Action Research with two cycles. The instruments used to find out the data were observation, tests and interview. The calculation of the study was applying simple calculation, i.e. by finding out the means differences of the pre-test and post-tests in Cycle 1 and Cycle 2. The study result showed that role play was applied during the process of the teaching and learning in the classroom. It showed significant different on students` English achievement from pre-test to post-test in Cycle 2. It means that role play method could improve students` English speaking skill and couldalso motivate students to learn more.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The main purposes of study were to know the teachers’ understanding about ICT and its implementation in their instructional practice and the possible problems faced. Then, was there any correlation between teachers’ understanding about ICT and its implementation to the students’ achievement. The other purpose was to see whether the use of ICT influenced students’ achievement in Bengkulu. The sample consisted of 172 senior high schools English teachers and 438 tenth grade students. The data of this study were gained through the instruments: questionnaire, observation, test and interview. Data analysis was done in two stages. The result of this study showed that the implementation of ICT integration in teaching English by senior high school teachers in Kota Bengkulu had been started but it was still in the level of less favorable in all phases of instructional practice (planning, implementing, evaluating and reflecting). There were many problems faced by the teachers in integrating ICT in their teaching practice in terms of internal problems and the school policy.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to improve the ability of students who took public speaking lesson on sixth semester at English study program of IAIN Bengkulu in giving an informative speech. The research method was classroom action research by doing three cycles. The respondents of this research were the students in public speaking class on sixth semester at English study program of IAIN Bengkulu. They were 21 students. The students who had enough ability in giving informative speech increased in each phase, 33.33% in cycle 1, 52.38% in cycle 2 and 57.14% in cycle 3. It meant some of students could increase their ability from very low or low to enough. In addition, the number of students who had enough ability in post-test decreased, it was 47.61%. That was because some of them could reach the higher ability such as good and very good. It showed that the students’ could decrease the difficulties in giving an informative speech. It meant the using of visual aids can improve the students’ ability in giving an informative speech.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was designed: (1) to find out a significant progress on the English speaking skill of students’ Economics using Internet reading materials. (2) to find out a significant effect by using visual and auditory learning style toward English Speaking Skill. (3) to know an interaction effect between Group Investigation Model and learning style toward English speaking skill. Quasi-experimental research 2 x 2 factorial design used in this research, and all the computational procedure were run by using SPSS. The results showed that, 1) there was a significant progress of students’ Englsih Speaking skill after given Group Investigation Model, 2) there was the effect of learning style to the students’ English speaking skills, 3) there was an interaction effect between the use of Group Investigation Model to the reading materials from the multimedia and learning styles on speaking competence.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The research was aimed to analyze the students’ responses to the lecturer’s questions. The subject of the research was all of students of the fourth semester of English Deparment of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu in the Academic Year 2009/2010. The total of students are 110 students. The reseacher observed five lectures, they were: Writing II, Curriculum and Material Development, Speaking IV by, Language Testing, and Grammar IV. Three were 34 items that consist of three types of responses whether there were oral, written and non-verbal. The result of the analysis show that the students responses; eye contact (42%:often), it can be concluded that the response dominantly was eye contact response. Besed on the result, the researcher suggests as follows: (1) the students are hoped to be braver and confidence to speak up to the lecturers in responding to the lecturers’ questions. (2) for the lecturers of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu, make the classroom atmosphere more interactive among the lecturers and the students by giving the support and motivation to the students to practice their English.
